Well I'm working class born and bred........if you are from the UK you will understand that. Moved around a lot as a kid because my dad was in the army.........ended up making a mess of my exams because I wasnt focussed and admittedly lazy and distracted hehehe.

Worked for a year on building sites before somehow managing to get into University to study Biochemistry at Aberystwyth in Wales. Ended up being within the top few percent of the year. I had to work my knackers off to turn this around........everybody thought I was incapable of going to uni (one of my teachers told me on a regular basis).

Did a Ph.D at the University of Birmingham.........then worked there for 3 years doing work based on my Ph.D. Lived in a notorious red-light district which happened to be in a predominantly asian area. Dunno how or why it managed to be there but it was.

After I got turned down for my own grants based largely on lack of experience (one notable member of the scientific community called this a 'travesty' lol) I decided to go into teaching. I am now in my second year of teaching in the north of England........again in a predominantly asian Pakistani) area.

I like moving around and having new experiences.........I cant stand narrow mindedness.
