Can someone explain to me (in layman's terms) what they mean by "protein converts to glucose at 58% efficiency"

The word that hangs my up is "efficiency". Compared to what? Carbs? Do carbs convert at 100%? And how can I figure out how much of my protein will convert to glucose?

Carbs convert at 100%, so the 58% for protein relates to it's conversion occuring during gluconeogenesis. 58% of the aminos are stripped and converted to glucose. Fats have a conversion rate of below 10%, just to round out the macros.

your body is designed to run on glucose... brain and muscles alike. When in keto, your body wants its glucose back and will do whatever necessary, including convert protein to glucose as KD explained.
