Drugs Often Do Not Work

"In a stunning admission, a senior executive with Britians's largest pharmaceutical company has stated that most prescription medicines do not work on half of the patients who take them.

Dr. Allen Roses is worldwide vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline. He is a world-class pioneer in the branch of medicine that studies the relationship between genes and our response to individual drugs. On Dec. 8, 2003, a British newspaper quoted Dr. Roses telling a scientific conference in London: "THE VAST MAJORITY OF DRUGS ONLY WORK IN 30 OR 50% OF THE PEOPLE."

Dr. Roses predicted that in a few years, scienctists would be able to give patients a simple genetics test that would predict which medicines would work for them. Drug companies could use the information to tailor new drugs aimed at the 50% of people not helped.

It is an open secret within the pharmaceutical industry that most of its products are ineffecitve in most patients, but this is the first time such a senior drug boss has gone public. Dr. Roses' admission corroborates what FDA reviewers told FRONTLINE--not only are many dangerous drugs wrongfully approved, but they often are only minimally effective!"

This is a piece from an article from "LIFE EXTENSION" magazine written by William Faloon. ***Posted strictly for educational purposes.***

yes of course

and he is talking about gene chips to test whether or not you have the genetic makeup to benefit from certain drugs

interesting, hey?

Don't get me wrong, there's a time and a place. I'm talking about all the bullshit cold and flu medications people always take or tylenols for every little ache. I never touch any of that stuff....

what's interesting is when you see results of tests with psychological drugs involved. even the placebo groups get better, albeit slightly. when they combine either the placebo or the real drug with therapy, the patients get drastically better.

the mind has such power over the body. my dad told me every time we had something major to do, my mother would get a "conveinient illness." we moved, she had the flu. we put an addition on the house...she couldn't walk without pain for an entire summer...shit like that.

interesting to note, the walking problem....she saw a lot of doctors that summer, sat around like a fat lazy bitch, screamed and yelled a lot, we waited on her practically hand and foot, and then one doctor makes her a pair of insoles for her shoes, and HOLY FUCKING SHIT, she was magicaly cured! convienent illness? you bet your fucking ass it was! all by the power of the mind!

common belief that if you are spending your money on something, then it's going to work to help you. power of the mind is werid.

there was a similar article in businessweek or forbes was it. In any case it stated at least 33% of cases are not alleviated by the drugs specifically designed to aid. And they gave a comparison chart of women developng tumor in breast with and without administration exemestane and I think zeneca if my memroy serves - with the administration of it the numbers were rampant :o

i konw some of the stuff i take does help out. of course, i'm on a nerve pain medication and i get pain killers sporadically. vicotin rocks.

Orchid BioTech was working on those gene chips with a bent towards the pharmaceutical industry (other industries as well, but the drug stuff is the part I'm familiar with).

Not sure what they are up to anymore - as far as I know a lot of the chemistry side of their stuff was cancelled.

Damn! Why didn't I think of that!??!!?

That's pure genius, getting all the good effects of placebo while halving the side effects of the drug!

this is why i just eat vitamins from a bottle labled "steroids." i've been making incredible gains, but i think i might be getting gyno
