Drinking stuff with Aspartame in it? READ THIS

You can have my aspartame when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers! ;)

Personally I'm a fan of aspartame for flavoring, but one of these days I'll read up on the background of it. It's too bad most of the sweet things in my pantry are made with it.

I swear, drinking stuff with aspartame on a regular basis gave me terrible headaches. it took me forever to figure out the cause. so once i eliminated aspartame-sweetened drinks, i was happy and healthy. i agree with this article

It is 3:30 in the morning, why did I have to read this. Demmit, there goes my one diet mountain dew a day.

Good read man, I have to send this to some people that are diet coke junkies.

What about the sweetener "Splenda?"

both aspartame and splenda are perfectly safe

don't believe all those urban legends
there have never been a serious study about artificial sweetener being dangerous

I can't really even be bothered to respond to all that crap in that Mercola article. Notice they referenced everything, but didn't even put the references at the end so you could read up on the research for yourself and make an INFORMED opinion. I also noticed they didn't really include anything other than anecdotal research past the 80's. Very sad.

Rather than bore you all with real science (since I realize most of you don't really want to go into that level of understanding), I'll just point out that there are people that will display an allergy to almost any food you can imagine. There are HUGE numbers of people who are allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, etc.... but no on IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would suggest that this justifies banning the foods, or telling everyone not to eat them. If you know you are allergic to aspartame then don't eat it. It's that simple guys. But don't turn it into a conspiracy theory. To put it in another perspective, imagine if all of those already obese westerners drank the same amount of full sugar soda as they do aspartame laden sodas. Me thinks they would be even worse off!

On the plus side, aspartame is a great appetite suppressant, and has other potential medicinal benefits aside from being a sweetener. But moderation in all things should always be rule number one (whether it's sugar, aspartame, refined wheat, alcohol or whatever).

That's fine. Altho' here's another site for you or anyone else which shows more studies from 1998, and do contain medical references. Click on some of the links there to get the info.

here's another link with some more references.

I'd have to say that it's just not worth the risk, for me anyway, to ingest this crap in any sort of regular dosage, no matter how small.

We all should know by now that there are things that are covered up in the medical, food or any industry, all forthe sake of the mighty dollar. look at Agent orange. Oh it's fine. Don't worry about it. Ta daa, look what happened. Gulf war syndrome. oh you're fine. But something is wrong.

Sorry but in my opinion, coverups, or misinformation are just like aids, You don't think it can happen to you and you pretend it's not out there. No one will lie to you when it involves your health and well being. Yeah right. Sorry, but I don't think so.

fair enough, but after reading it, i think it's better to be safe than sorry for me. I dont need sweeteners.

It is up to you but if you want to be safe you'd better
avoid saccharose and trans fat
and stop smoking

you don't need that either :) :)

i use 100% whey protein powder by naturade. the stuff is nothing but protein. no artificial anything. it basically has no taste, but that's not why i'm drinking it, so who cares? i just gulp it down.

anyway, since i consume so much protein powder a day, everyday, i decided to skip the artificial sweeteners. maybe they're fine, but why take the chance if you eat a lot of it and there are other protein powers out there without it!?!?

Hell Yea Bro! That goes for me as well.

Its just email Spam BS that goes around, urban legends etc.

read too many bad things about aspartame. Recently switched to natural optimum nutrition. Contains no aspartame whatsoever... unlike the regular optimum proteins.
