No microwaving food won't give you a brain cancer (kidding :D ) but....

Certain methods of preparation and cooking can cause vegetables to lose their cancer-fighting compounds, with microwaving the biggest culprit, finds a new study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.

A study investigating various cooking methods of broccoli concluded that microwaving is the clear loser: microwaved broccoli had lost 97 per cent, 74 per cent and 87 per cent of three major antioxidant compounds - flavonoids, sinapics and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives. By stark comparison, steamed broccoli had lost only 11 per cent, 0 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, of the same antioxidants.

I also heard not to heat any thing up in plastic in the micro.....breaks down the plastic and that can be harmful

Shit. I have been cooking my broccoli in a plastic steamer in my microwave.

I read that article too. It's time I got a proper steamer.

And make sure not to cook anything on a styrofoam plate. Damn that invention: styrofoam-- when the world collaspes, we will only be left with that.

I just either boil or steam everything on the stove for veggies. For potatos, slice up the middle- then wrap in a wet paper towel, and cook in microwave. Quick and easy.

BTW usually the less you cook the better (apart from tomatoes which need to be cooked to benefit from its lycopen)

how the fuck do i cook sweet potaoes? it takes 14mins in the microwave, damn, it would take an hour in the oven.

you can use a pressure cooker

hm... i thought microwaving was good?

i heard boiling was the worst because all the nutrients are left in the water and then thrown out... microwaving was supposed to one of the best.

I cook sweet potatoes in a crock pot. Just put them in on low all day and that's it. They will not get overdone if you leave them until you are ready. The outside will not be crusty like in the oven but the inside will be extra moist so you will not even need butter.
