is nextel the actual service? or the phone? I have worldcom and service, coverage is great, customer service sucks as well as BILLING.

Check this out. My mom bought a cell phone for my sister, forget what brand, but then changed her mind on it and took it back within THE HOUR of purchasing it. They had her sign a contract, a large multipage one, of course she didnt read the whole thing but they had a clause there saying it was a 240 dollar charge to take it back...

my company was looking into nextel and backed out for a variety of reasons.

from all the systems I've used:
nextel: ass
sprint: ass
AT&T: ass
Voicestream: 95% good.

I had Nextel, and hated it. They worked great if you had service, but half of the time I was in a "dead zone". I could be in the middle of Detroit and still not get any service. I went back to Verizon...

And they sell that State Wide (soon to be nation wide) walkie talkie feature as it's main benefit over other carriers.

I'd rather be talking over my 1970's CB radio to Bubba the Long haul trucker that that stupid gimmick.

I see people in the store battling to understand the other person and finally giving up and dialing them on the Cell...

I'd be happy to have any cell company put up a tower near my WVa place. Because of the Nat'l Radio Quiet Zone there, there's only one cell company in the county with some wimpy sites that cover only a few square miles. I'd Like to see CHINGAR (Cingular) or Asshole Turtle and Telephone (AT&T), but I'd even settle for Next-to-Hell (NEXTEL). Right now I have to rely for a land line there which consists of a couple miles of 12-2 Romex UFB laid out on the ground from the highway -- and subject to occasional gnawing by animals causing enough shorting to engender ringout and offhook conditions. It's connected in the house to one of those Engenius brand "Industrial" 900 mw, 900 MHz digital spread-spectrum cordless systems with a useable range of about 1/2 mile -- except where blocked by terrain. I'd rather have cell as it's cheaper for long distance and would be nice for hiking more than a half-mile from my place.

I always thought that Next to Hell walkie-talkie feature was neat and wished the other companies would do the same
