I'll give you guys a background of my situation. I'll tell you guys about the product and patent just because the patent has been around for a few years and there have been similar products created already. anyways
My brother in law's father is a pediatrician. He developed a patent for a baby monitering system specifically for preventing SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). it is very similar to the this product (http://store.yahoo.com/dsguide/babymonitors-babysense.html)
it's the movement sensor and baby monitor. basically when a baby dies of SIDS, they are usually in a facedown position and their airway gets restricted. This allows parents to know if their child strays away from the face up position.
it has the same concept as the above link, but different mechanism. Instead of there being a pad that detects the baby's movement, there is an optical device that monitors the movement.
Basically my brother in law's father doesn't have time to pursue anything as far as selling the patent to developers or manufacturing the product itself, which is why i have it, since i have enough time to invest in it. He's had it for years and just wants SOME type of return on his investment since right now the patent's value is basically zero as is.
The product has potential, solely for the fact SIDS awareness is extremely high still, and there are many products on the market to prevent SIDS. most of the products on the market (such as crib insulators, and specialized matresses) are not proven to be safe or completely effective. This is where this product comes in. There is also potential for other uses (such as nursing homes and the elderly walking away from their beds etc)
Now my question is, what steps should i take and who should i contact in order to pursue something? This is a completely new venture to me, but i am dedicated to doing something with this.
btw matt, you never got back to me about this. i'm guessing this wasn't of interest?
