Does the CIA improve our lives?

They operate in the shadows and avoid publicity so it seems.

Foreign affairs are their forte while the FBI concentrates on domestic affairs.

The FBI is squeaky clean as a rule. Anything goes with the CIA.

I am not opposed to dirty play when the stakes are high and the game is played that way by both sides. The spy wars never die and intelligence is so valuable.

OK...enough meandering.

They have been both good and bad for T boy. Some days I like them and some days I don't.

If you believe that the "other side" has similiar secretive services, then yes. Otherwise, I'm guessing no.

Of course the other side has secretive agencies.

I wonder how many agents are double agents though.....going back ways and pocketing some serious money.

Do you work for them bro?

Work with in the past? Yes

Work for them? No

The whole intra-agency thing get's kinda messy as to who is working for whom. If you want to see governmental fuck ups, read the Sentate Investigation into 9/11. It shows how hard it is to work in a world of secrets and compartmentalized information.

Lots of secrets in this world.....

I wouldn't mind picking up a job with some of those fellas after I retire from the AF.

I hear they are big on computer skills and foreign languages....esp. Chinese and Russian.

Don't forget Farsi.... that's pretty hot these days.

Many years ago, I took a few years of Russian. I haven't used it in ages.

BTW, nice quote. :D

CBU going off looks real nice - especially at night when viewed through night vision goggles.
Still fails to beat a battleship in full action.

I would have maybe tried to be pres if I could have got a battleship named after me. j/k

Aircraft carriers and subs just don't rock my world.

I like to see the daisy cutters clear out some jungle. Cool stuff.

Nukes look pretty special as well.

I think you'll like this one every more -

tough question. i once wanted to work for the CIA. once.

Best decision of your life, besides growing the mullet, even though the undercover FBI agents with mullets sort of died out after the militias were raided post Fed OK. The CIA has no use for the mullet! Turban's are a high priority, but their are no worth while numbers of trustworthy arabic speakers other than a few ex spec ops!

I know I know. I was young and idealistic. I wasn't the pessimist that I am now. hell, I was even in the military (army reserve *cough*) for a brief time before getting a medical discharge.

Just like what was in is now out! The institutions that you would think were and are here to protect you are in fact starting to cause you harm and eventually may endanger your life in means you would never image!

you're right. however sadly I've become apathetic (please no sheeple comments). I try to stay aware of what's going on and talk w/the few people I know that are interested in what's going on, but I don't think it really matters which is pretty shitty .

How can one make a reasoned judgement on agencies that are secret? What objective information would allow us to judge accurately their benefit or detriment? For every open action, how many are held classified, preventing us from making judgements? Could this be a reason why so much is held confidential?

As you stated, the main reason why Americans look favorably on the CIA and FBI is due to movies. There are volumes written about the unlawful and immoral actions of these agencies.

Well you know, I could tell you, but......

And yes, hollywood does a good job with the spy movies and glorifying the various agencies. But who do you think lets the producers make the movies 'on location'? When a director or producer actually gets permission to shoot scenes at CIA or FBI offices, it is reasonable to conclude that said producer/director will be a tad biased. Something about not biting hands that feed.

p.s. LOL at T-boy.
