Does nicotine disturb the gains?

I'n my country, (i live in sweden) we have something called snuff.. i know it's avaible in the states too, but it's a lot more common here... it's tobacco you put under you'r upper lip and the nicotine goes in tho the blood vanes under you'r lip, it sounds worse then it is.. anyway, does this high nicotine intake affect the gains and anabolism on cycles ? ive been using this "snuff" for 3 years.. it's a very healthy alternetive to cigaretts, i hate them.. any information would be great.. //wls

No it shouldn't. Cigarettes have actually been correlated with higher testosterone. Whether this means that ciggarettes raise test or people who smoke are generally leaner and therefore have less aromatase and more testosterone I don't know.

Well "snuff" is not any safer than cigs. Instead of getting lung cancer. You might get oral cancer. So if you think that "snuff" is safer. You are only fooling yourself. This is NOT meant as a flame. But snuff is not any healthier.

One time I read an article in a Men's Health magazine about this Doctor that did a study. He basically concluded that nicotine decreases the amount of blood flow to your muscles. Im not sure on how accurate it is but I have been an on and off smoker and I definitely feel not as strong in the gym if I was smoking recently. Tobacco in any form sucks. I would try to ditch it and see if anything changes.

It dilates your blood vessels, therfore restricting proper bllod flow. When most bodybuilders are constantly seeking that "pump", constricted blood vessles for any reason isn't a good thing, agreed?

nicotine can adversely affect gains, though it can also promote fat loss. It is a dopaminergic agent as well as having direct agonistic effects on nicotinic receptors. Negative impact on anabolism (as well as enhanced fat loss) is likely through leptin mediated pathways.

note- nicotine use can make a "bulk" leaner. Though this will , as with most things that do this, reduce overall gains.

hej!
when i stoped smoking and started using snus i gained 5 kg. When i stoped using snus i gained 5 kg more.
Try not to use snus for a month and see what happens yourself.
good luck.

Oh man.. my old roommate had holes in his lip from that stuff. Saw a kid on tv who had his jaw removed too!
I would stay away!

LMAO Yeah dude very healthy alternative. Are you kidding me?? Its just as bad, if not worse. And yes it will conflict with your gains. Buddy of mine died 4months ago from "Chewing Cancer". Bro take everyones advice and try to kick it if you can. I cant understand while people still smoke or chew or snuff still knowing the consequences of using death products like these. Answer me this , Why is one willing to work out and acheive looking good on the outside, But not worried about what affects the inside of them until its to late?

lol by the way I tried to quote this but i guess i screwed up

The first thing, snus aren't nearly as bad as cigarrets, tho they can give moulth cancer.. there aren't no test supporting that yet... they don't blacken you'r loungs and so... in sweden they work 24-7 with this snus against cigarrets and for so long we had 2 kills that may be have related to snus.. in 75 years, then you have about 2 millions a year from cigaretts in swe.. either way i don't like any of them it's foolish and very dumb, i will try to quit it before my cycle... stick to AAS
Have a nice saturday all! ;)

It can negatively affect strength as well....

Smokeless tobacco, reaction time, and strength in athletes.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the effects of smokeless tobacco on reaction time and strength in a group of Division III athletes. METHODS: Athletes were tested for simple and choice reaction time, maximum voluntary force, and maximum rate of force generation of the knee extensors on a KinCom dynamometer at 250 degrees.s-1. Smokeless tobacco-using athletes (N = 20) were tested while both using and after abstaining from smokeless tobacco. Another group of athletes (N = 20) who did not use smokeless tobacco served as a control group. RESULTS: Simple and complex reaction times were not affected by smokeless tobacco use or abstention. In the simple reaction time test, maximum voluntary knee extensor force was higher in the smokeless tobacco-using group while abstaining (P < 0.05). Maximum rate of force generation in the simple reaction time test was not statistically different between the conditions. In the choice reaction test, both strength parameters (maximum force and maximum rate of force generation) were higher in the user group while abstaining (P < 0.05) compared with the using condition. The strength parameter measurements in the control group were not statistically different from the tobacco-using group, while either using or abstaining. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that smokeless tobacco use has no effect on reaction time but may detrimentally influence maximum voluntary force and maximum rate of force generation.

Nice Article B32, Sounds like it affects stamina more than strength. I've been using nicotine inhalers for the past 3 years, and although I do not smoke anymore, I still feel winded every once in a while. Especially on days that I use more of the inhaler.
