Does anyone here use a USB bluetooth adapter?

juiceddreadlocks

rebuilding, getting there

I'm looking to use it to transfer small files between my tablet pc (built in bluetooth) and several dell notebooks which are not part of any network.

90% of the time these files will be small microsoft word documents and acrobat files, no more than a couple megs a piece.

The linksys one looks the best so far, although CNET doesnt have a review of it.

Im going to bluetooth my entire life, with my pocket pc, soon as I walk into the room, lights turn on, all voice activated, through, you guessed my sony hm30 bluetooth headphones, phone and mic,
turn on lights, turn on coffee pot, change channel, dial spongebob, all bluetoothed

not sure of what adapter is the best though, Ive looked into, all of them are pretty cheap, like 80$ for a good one, there are bluetooth wireless systems I believe where you dont need a separate adapter for each device you want to control, I checked it out briefly, more for doing the house up startrek style, but Im sure there is a unit out there more cost effective than buying a bunch of bluetooth adapters, depending on what you are trying to do of course and how many devices you are using it for and for what use

Dude, why make things complicated when you can have them simple?

buy a cheap ass USB-memory stick and be done with it... cheaper, simpler, elegant

For what you describe, a USB ram-stick would be best. The only time I resort to bluetooth is for hand-held devices, such as mobile phones, when it's not convenient to mess with cables. As for which adapter to buy: just get the cheapest. I have a couple of DLink ones and a brandX one. No noticable difference.

no, but we just got some Oakley sunglasses into work yesterday that are supposed to increase the bluetooth capabilities of your cell phone.

you know, just fyi.

Killah, you know you are band from IT-related threads...

why do you continue doing this to yourself?

His post is not unrelated, though. You can get Bluetooth adapters with a little pop-up aerial to extend the range significantly. The Oakley X-Metal lead-lined shades might soon become de-rigeur in IT depts.

Fuck yeah! Take that shit, pintoca.

right now I use a 2gig runofthemill memorex USB drive. It gets the job done. I tried to describe to pintoca earlier what exactly I need but I just confused myself.

Another possibility might be to get USB wifi dongles and a wifi router and make them part of the network or set up a separate wireless network just for them.

My Netgear wifi router will even stop wifi clients being able to talk to one another as an option.

yeah, my first solution to the problem was to get a USB wifi dongle. I figured for only needing to transfer 2mb or less sized files that just using bluetooth would be easier

maybe I is crazy

The only real edges that BT has over wifi are cost and power consumption. wifi wins in everything else that comes to mind.

I think your craziness is a separate matter.
