Does anyone here know a lot about digital cameras?

I just posted about this recently. I have to clean my Dad's office out because he is in Afghanistan and not returning to work when he comes back in 2007. All his new and used electronics have to go.

I have a brand new Olympus digital camera with a new digital card 512mb size...never registered and the warranty is good.

i switched from an olympus to a kodak p850... for a slr like cam under 500 it's awesome...

all depends on what you are looking to spend on one..

i'm thinking 300-400 bucks. do most of them do b&w equally well, or are some better than others?

Well I heard that the brands that previously already produced celluloid camera´s, make better digital camera´s.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 7600, which does 7.1 effective Megapixels, has 3x optical zoom, a 2 inch LCD screen and enough gadgets. It also does a decent video recording. 30 images per second, 640x480 pixels, self adjusting to light and distance in real-time. It´s proved useful in play (6)

The only thing that bothers me is the saving time. - when you take a pic, it takes a few seconds at the highest detail setting, to load it onto the memory card, before you can take another. Now I heard this really depends on the memory card, rather than the camera. But I´m supposed to have a fairly fast memory card in it.

Anyway, It seems right now, when I plug it in, my whole comp blocks. no error report, but mouse and keyboard no longer respond. In fact, the lights on them even go out.

odd problem. probably not something wrong with the cam, rather with my system.
 
Canon XT is fucking mindblowing. I bought my neighbor one for Christmas and was so impressed I borrow it all the time.


On another note, back when I was asking questions to Testboy about cams, I ventured out to some digital cam forums. They had these guys out there posting pics that came from their setup of $8000-$15000 camera and lens. They had a contest one month, dude that came in second place out of 1000 entries took the pic with his fucking cellphone. This dude was out taking jaw dropping pics with a damn phone just to show people what you could get. He had made his own nickle size fliter with gelatin paper, for macro shots, he stuck a magnifying lens in front of the viewfinder. He was smoking everyone.

No, it was over on fred miranda's site. That dude had some fucking amazing talent. He even took two lens out of an old rifle scope and taped them together to make a crude version of a microscopic lens and the colors were awesome.

thanks for the response. i've been to dpreview.com before, and went there again. i think i'm getting the canon powershot s80 for 399/free shipping from dell.com. this camera, and perhaps most cameras, is beyond what i may need/want...but i like room to grow. also, i can't stand doing much research these days.

haven't decided for sure though.
 
I want a small one that does good video. My neighbor went running out of her house a few weeks ago. There was a chopper right over her back yard.

I ignored it until it was too far away. She was a little freaked since that is pretty unusual.

Without pics or vid....stories like this are nothing but grist for the mill.

Get the Canon 5D, costs about 3 g's, but it is the one of the best damned pro camera's on the market. Half the price of the 1Ds, better imaging chip, engine, etc.
 
I am gonna get it, in the next 12-18 months. Rebuild my Camera equipment. I love to take pictures (landscape, wildlife, portraits, b/w)
 
you like taking pictures? so do i... 3 G's for the same picture i get from my 400 dollar cam... have fun. unless you are blowing them up to poster size.
 
that high-end shit is fine for some, but it would be foolish for me at this point. i went with the canon s80 for 399 total. it's likely that it will be much more than good enough for me. i'm just a tard over some decisions and can't help but procrastinate.
