Do you keep your car a long time?

I tend to look at my vehicle as some type of friend and drive it until it is rediculous.

My truck is getting old now, had it for 9 years and people are showing disdain despite the fact that it is in very good condition. It is to the point that it may cost me sales with prospective wedding photography clients.

Another American syndrome, always be making car payments.

I try to keep my automobiles for as long as they will go, always buying, never leasing, that's just me. peace

Cars are a huge money pit so I keep it as long as possible.
My ride is a 95 pathfinder (purcahsed new in 96).

PM supernav.

He will fill your head with illogical reasons to keep a car forever.

If I recall, he is up against the wall for about 5 K to keep his "investment" going down the road.

Had a 89 camry with 242,000 miles on it before it died in 99 from electrical problems after a hit/run. Got my $$ worth out of that. Now have a 99 Civic that i purchased with 2 miles on it thats about to turn 100,000 miles by end of the week. Keepin it and figure its good for another 100,000 miles.

Probably get a used Toy Tacoma next year for hauling stuff, hunting, winter.

I'm still driving my first car. It will be 10 years old next month. It recently got 70K on it. I'll probably get another car in the next 2 years b/c this is an economy car and there are certain upgrades I would like - like airbags and a cassette/CD player (I only have a radio). :)

I've not had a car payment in over 14 year's! Grrrr..HATE 'EM!

Although, my hubby and dad in law buy wrecked cars and repair them like new. I refuse to pay $35K+ for a new car! I drive a 2001 Bonneville SSEI right now. Usually change cars every two to three year's on above plan !

I'm holding out for them to find a new "wrecked" Jag to fix up for me. I'm sure the new car parts will break me when they find one for me though!

I have connections where I can excellent lease deals on cars. Through my business ventures, it makes far more sense for the company to own the car than it does for me to own them.

As a result, there is a naturally high turnover rate with the leases.

That, and you can only run over the hired help so many times before it really scratches the chrome. And nobody likes that.

Psstt....Martha...it;s a better deal for the corporation to lease them, not to buy.

Now you'll have more money for your legal defense.

Thanks for the tip, but I said right there that we lease them. I suppose the way I said the company owns then and not saying "the bank owns them" is what you are referring to.

A verbal stumble I suppose, and I am sorry. But I assure you that in terms of money, we are just fine.

I recently sold my 78' GMC pickup. Had it for 15 years.

Holy crap! Camry's rule!

I currently have 2 cars:

1988 Toyota Camry - 245k miles and still running fine (loud and banged up though)

1997 Toyota Celica - 106k miles currently

The hood came off my car one day as I was driving down the street, just like in the movie "Tommy Boy." I drove it like that for several months unitl it finally gave out. People were always making fun of me. Did I care? Hell no. Most people are mindless sheep.

I heard that. I have a 94 Camry with 221,000 miles on it now. I plan to drive it until the end of the year and then maybe give it away to my little brother it's still running good.

Totoya makes good ass cars that fuckin' last!!! That should be in their comericals.

At least 8 years.
Mrs Y and I rotate every 4 years getting a new vehicle so we only have 1 payment.
Unfortunately, she rarely lasts 8 years before wanting a new Vehicle.

The T3 edition? Yeah I know seeing all the abuse it took in the movie is what made you want it!!!!! j/k

As far as the cars, I read a quote by I believe Dale Carnegie that said never be the last owner of a piece of equipment. Meaning, don't be the guy holding the bag when it finally dies. Pass on that loss to someone else.

I have a Sentra with 150k on it that is still running strong but I am going to sell it before it dies (around december time). I will buy a Civic or something with around 100k on it. I will drive it until it's got 200 or 250k then I will sell that and upgrade again.

I am a mechanic and am all about making my cars last but all cars die eventually. I am going to take that guy's advice and make sure I'm not the one driving when that happens.

Actually in T3 it was a Tundra not a Tacoma... Tacoma is alittle smaller pickup and pretty reasonable at a used car price. Neighbor had bought one this past winter and sure didn't have a problem with the 3/4 ft drifts in the neighborhood getting around. Convinced me to buy one... Other SUVs were too heavy and couldn't get out of the neighborhood...

Planning on keeping my Civic as a daily driver/beater car.

broly I've ridden in it and that Civic is NOT a beater! LOL

Take good care of it, it deserves it. Or I might have to trade cars with you (and I got a REAL beater) LOL

94 Honda accord 103k miles on it. I`ve been upkeeping it well and I want at LEAST 200k. lol anything over 200k is icing. Paid in full for it, so no financing. That`s saving me ALOT of money. Got it new for 16k + taxes warranty etc. as a leftover.

Also got a 01 Nissan Pathfinder about 35k ouch. (for the baby.) 3 year 1.9% financing. got 10k left on it. lol

I'm almost 25 and am on my 4th and 5th cars. I've had my 87 GN for 4 years and don't see myself selling it (unless someone wants it for 5k more than it's worth). I've had my 93 SHO beater for just over 2 years and plan to keep it until it dies. Mostly because nobody will ever give me anything for it because it's cosmetically a piece, but runs fine. Currently 168xxx, paid 2900 for it, I can't go wrong. I'm betting it will make 225k easy.

My mom on the other hand..... she's had a dozen cars since I was 16. She rarely keeps one over a year, there's something wrong with her. I'd sit down and write a list but in 20 mins it'd probably be a page long and I'd be forgetting some.

I buy a car and drive it forever. I'll only get rid of it went it becomes to expensive to repair. I hate car payments. My wife on the other hand is always coveting a new drive. A continuing source of friction between us....

How's that BGN run bro? Got any mods to it? Now there's a car that holds value.

I've got a 2000 Jeep cherokee and I'm keeping it for ever cause I have been paying a car payment every month since I was 15 and I'm sick of it.

Got a 89` Mazda 323 1,6 , with 175K on it. paid about 5000$ about 3 years ago... damn cars are _expensive_ in Norway..

Im holding on to this baby forever, it runs perfectly, no problems whatsoever. I love mazda! :)

The chicks dont turn around when i drive by, but hey, its a cheap car.. Would rather invest in a house/apartment than a car.. i know quite a few 25-30 year olds who still live at home with mom and run porches/expensive bmw`s..
