Do you buy warranties for anything?

Electronic stuff or washing machines/dryers? How about the utility company's offers for the boiler hot water heater etc...? Some seem reasonable because if your heat breaks down, you're screwed and $7/month doesn't sound too bad.

Anyone?

I have a 5 year warranty on my washer/dryer. That's about it. My old one broke down too many times so I got this with the new ones. It was $200 extra for both for an additional 3 or 4 years after the manufacturers warranty, so I'm good for a while.

Oh yeah, I have a 4 year on my microwave too. lol I bought that for $200 something. ouch. I've already used it twioce though. Nice. Trust me, I'm ahead with that one. It's a high end unit and expensive.

Answer!

The odds of the unit breaking vs. the amount of cost to repair vs. cost of warranty.

The sheer odds of statistics say warranties favor the manufacturer every single time.

Yeah, I agree but sometimes you ge tunlucky. My original W/D combo was $1000. After 13 months, which was one month past the warranty it died. OK, no problem. I got it fixed for $300, then it broke a few months later again, fixed for $250, broke again, $300. ... It cost OVER $1000 to fix it after I bought it for $1000 in a few years.

The next (expensive) washer and dryer I bought came with a 2 year warranty and I added 3 years for $100 each. Worth it IMO because of the trauma I had with the first unit.

Just something to help you sleep at night I guess.

HAHA I got you you fucker.

You're playing right into their trap. I have no life insurance, auto insurance, home insurance... No car warranties and I don't eat very much fiber.

Oh, and I like to Ice Skate with razor blade efficiency over thinly frozen puddles.

If you buy high quality stuff, then they are not worth it on average.

If for some reason you just MUST have some item that is unreliable, them maybe...

no, I never do. Use to and it always seemed like it would break after that warrenty any damn way. Waste of money IMO.

Too bad they don't offer warranties for relationships. Couldn't you see calling in and saying "he broke, come fix him and bring me a loaner in the meantime."

Only suckers or people who don't care for their stuff buys extended warranties.

I've never had a need for one.

The sad thing is that my latest tv I bought on clearance for $1200. This was a $3000 tv when it first came out. Well the guy kept pressuring me into the extended warranty. I asked how much and he said $440 for 2 years.

LMAO, I said "Do I look stupid, that is over a third of the price of the tv"

If you buy from a good manufacturer outright, that should solve the problem.

There is really only one time I can think of when I bought something, but wished I'd gotten a warranty for it.

I had this 20" sanyo tv, that i paid $130 for. Great picture and everything, but about 1 month after the 1 yr warranty expired all of a sudden I could no longer get channel 2 and 4. And then channel 5 only comes in rarely now. Its not the antenna. I think it has something to do with the tuner, because when i try to go to channels 2,4,5 I hear this hissing sound on the inside of the tv. (a hissing much different from the snow sound one gets on an empty channel)

But yeah, in general warranties are a waste of money.
