digesting protien problem

musclefattie

New member
anyone know any easier way to digest protien? I am cutting and have gone from 207 to 198 ( trying to get to 185) in about the last 10 days...i look a bit more muscular but not any less fat(?) i am eating a very high protien diet for my weight using little carbs and nuts for energy (change it to fat every other day)...about 200 gms protien 10 gms carbs..on the day i take fat the protien goes up to about 225 with 40 gms fat...this is very low calories and i bump up the calories big time for 2 days on the weekend with high everything. problem is on the diet days i am having problem getting the protien to my muscles and digesting it..i take glutamine and carnatine also...i feel sore the next day after workouts and even though i eat some ginger i have probelm digesting the protien (i.e. too gassy). Any help would be appreciated.

ginger root should help

proteases are the enzymes that breaks long chain proteins into smaller protein units, peptides and peptones
among them Pepsin, Trypsin, and Papain

More or better digested protein will not stop your soreness... carbs will. Maybe you should not train as frequently, or up your carbs somewhat.

Remember that decreasing carbs needs to be balanced with the decrease in performance that it brings. Maybe just increasing your carbs slightly will allow you even greater fat-loss and/or workout performance?

That's right, you can't just substitute protein for carbs on a gram to gram basis. Even with optimal digestion protein is still inefficient at getting converted to glucose. So you might try either increasing you protein a lot more, or your carbs a little more. What kinds of protein are you eating? Protein powders are notorious for making you "gassy". I also think your total cals are far too low to go 5 days straight without a higher calorie day. You need adequate calories for muscle recovery, diet or no diet.

Hmmm

My advice is to try a few proteins, I new when I first started protein supplementation, I was on the Can every 10seconds, Looked the same coming in as it did coming out. Eventully my body got used to it. Or take smaller amounts more frequently, instead of 50 every 3 hrs, take 25 every 1 1/2 Hour. What brand of protein are you on. Another Idea I have for you is to Add some flax to that protein to make it digest slower and give u a better effect, plus it will give u better energy then the nuts, and the reason u might be losing weight but not looking like it might be because of all the sodium in the nuts. Another Idea is to start taking some Sugar Free Citrucel, take that with your first Shake, and take it with your last shake. That should slow digestion, and help you, FIBER is one of the most important things on a Weight Lifting diet. Im worried about your diet plan doesnt seem too sound. Can you post it up here for us, so we can pick it apart, Check out the ulitmate get ripped diet, or u can look at my post which outlines my diet, I swear it works, some people get scared of eating all that fat but trust me U will feel great look great and melt the fat off. Also You are gonna feel/look flat if you dont have any carbs post workout, Have some Simple sugars and protein with some creatine, TRY this for a week, Have a long stick of sweet tarts, then 50grams of whey with glutamine and creatine, I think u will fill up your muscles and feel better. YOu need to replinsh Muscle glycogen after everyworkout. I have that sugar 6 days a week, and Im losing fat like a mad man,

thanks for all the advice

some more details: my protien consists of eas simply wey(have been on it for about a year-good stuff) just never taken so much before, wheni was bulking i used to eat more protien from steaks, mutton, chicken, fisn, now 80% of my protien 5 days a week is supplements and 20% is some mutton or chicken. Besides the nuts for carbs i take some green veggies(2 sups full fried in olive oil) for fibre or some (usually 2) bannanas.

anthrax-what is ginger root and where do i get it
Ms/plornive- i am very carb sensitive(ie i get fat easily from small amounts of carbs) so i am apprehensive about upping the carbs but will try it nonetheless...i am trying to loose fat.
vitor97-most of my carbs are after my meal plus l-carnatine and glutamine..so increase high gi stuff after my workout? i'll try what is citrucel?

P.S. i do i hour of cardio/jopgging every day

What works for me if I am low-carb dieting is to eat 50% protein, 30% carbs, and 20% fat. This is "low carb" for me, and the protein gives my blood lots of glucose to stay sane, too. 10g sounds like something a keto dieter or an anabolics user would take of carbs in a day. If your performance goes up with more carbs and you are more disciplined, I can't see how carbs would make you fat... calories in - calories out.

As far as digestion goes, I definitely see your point. When I took a lot of shakes, I felt like shit. I now eat tuna, tofu, egg whites, cottage cheese and some whey. Any more than 50g of whey per day and I am running to the toilet a lot. The cottage cheese doesn't help with gas, but you can take that at night and it will be done digesting in the morning.

Ginger root is at any health food store or grocery store I take 1000mgs before each meal even if its just a protien bar.. I read your doing alot of shakes. I bought a giant pitcher and pre mix my shakes this allows the tiny air bubles to surface before you drink the shake if you digest the air it has to come out some where...your butt... anyway. that will help with the gas and digestion.. and go to www.kilosports.com and by ALA this will help you burn fat do a search on it you will not be let down... good luck.
