I am so tired of this board eating my well-thought out posts. I will not go plat until the web clowns get this fixed.

Diamonds are even worse than gold because indistinguishable synthetic diamonds are on or nearly on the market. The only way to distinguish them is that the 'real' ones may come with a cert of authentication. But the only genuine distinction is that the synths can appear 'too perfect.'

the "diamond mafia" ensures that you'll have no way to make a good sizable profit off this market. It's pretty much covered from all angles in terms of distribution and production.
There are diamond mining operations in Canada -- but those operations cost millions and most of them have yet to make a profit. Still cheaper to use diamonds mined by africans working for $5/day under threat of an ak-47.
Most jewllery stores can't sell synethic diamonds due to pressure from the mob, i mean DeBeers. No one wants to risk losing their vendor status.

Not only that, but you couldnt flood the market with diamonds even if you wanted to. Most of the true large diamonds are privately owned and stashed away. DeBeers, Zales, etc. only release a small amount each year to keep the prices high. Diamonds are overpriced, but badass.
Cubic Zirconias are fake man-made diamonds. They are perfect. I think it rarely occurs in nature, so its obvious to any good jeweler if a diamond is real or not.

DeBeers controls most of diamond production, last I heard about 94%, it used to be more but the Russians got in the game lately with siberia.
