DHEA and Thyroid

Bump that. I just started using 25mg day of DHEA this week. Do users of DHEA here use it year round or only when they are cycling? I never had my level tested that I know of but Ross said you body stps producing it while on testostrerone.

No.

Critical elements for conversion of T4 to T3 are zinc, iron, selenium, and iodine. Your body also needs sufficient cortisol to support the conversion of T4 to T3. Cortisol also plays a major role in T3 metabolism. Without sufficient cortisol, T3 will begin to pool in your blood and further conversion of T4 will likely end up as Reverse T3 (inactive thyroid hormone). Reverse T3 fits into the same receptors as T3, getting in the way. When Reverse T3 levels are too high (otherwise known as Wilson's Syndrome), your cells will have less T3 available to them. This will cause a down-regulation in metabolism similar to hypothyroidism.

If you were interested in supporting the conversion of T4 to T3 as well as the increase in metabolism from T3, I would recommend pregnenolone. Optimal levels of pregnenolone will support neurotransmitter function and help to raise coritsol levels, helping T4 -> T3 conversion and metabolism. It will likely provide an increase in DHEA levels as well.

Steroid hormone conversion pathway:

1. Cholesterol->Pregnenolone->Progesterone->Cortisol

2. Cholesterol->Pregnenolone->DHEA->*sex hormones*

Well, the reason why I'm asking is because I take Synthroid and Cytomel for HRT purposes. Doc told me I was super low on DHEA. And so that I needed to add in lots of it.

I notice that everytime I take my whole dose 125mgs of DHEA (brings my DHEA levels to 500), I start to get "hyperthyroidism" symptoms. Body aches, stiffness, apathy, weakness and a little warmer.

I know that 7 Keto DHEA helps to increase the conversion of T4 to T3. Without increasing androgens and estrogens. But I did a "very quick" search on google yesterday. And I was able to come up with only ONE article stating that DHEA does in fact help convert T4 to T3. And one guy (replying to the article) said that ever since he starting megadosing on DHEA. He no longer needs to take thyroid meds. And that his thyroid panel blood work always comes out very good.

I know about Pregnenolone. My HRT doc says that HCG helps to increase that as well.

I have hypothyroidism as well as low DHEA. I take Armour Thyroid and 20mg. of compounded DHEA. The DHEA helps with your adrenals. If you start thyroid meds with poor adrenals, you can "burn out". Think of the thyroid meds as the engine and DHEA as the gas. Since the DHEA helps the adrenals, I've found it easier to deal with stress. I'm more layed back than what I already was.

Damn bro. Only 20mgs of DHEA? I have to take 100mgs in the morning and another 100mgs later in the evening just to get my DHEA levels to the top range. I can't imagine what 20mgs will do.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. My DHEA levels are around 350 with just taking the 20mg.
