Fucking shit... TWO credit card offers in one day - FOR THE SAME CARD - and I often get 3 a week. And the goddamn card doesn't even have any useful benefits. What the fuck use is a 0% APR on purchases credit card if I have to transfer a balance and incur a finance charge to qualify? DURRRR. Time to play hardball. Let's see who spams who when these dicks get their spam sent back to them fresh out of the paper shredder.

Think I can stuff the envelope with extra paper to make it heavier and create a higher postage charge, or will the post office send it back to me?

okay i just came on the keyboard i feel better now.

I too have been receiving copious amounts of junk mail from Providian for quite some time. My solution is similiar to yours, but with an interesting twist. One of my coworkers gets the Adam and Eve catalog at work, and has regularly cut out pictures of giant dildos, chicks taking it in the ass etc. and taped them in interesting places in peoples offices (as in you pick up the phone, but it does quite sound right, and look to find a picture of a vibrator in the ear piece) - anyways, with this in mind, I have returned several Providian offers, with a couple porn pics taped to it - still getting their snail mail spam, but at least someone is getting a laugh and/or offended about it...

i alos am inundated with credit card offers.

GETTING credit is no problem.

PAYING for the credit is always a struggle.

usually they send you a postage paid envelope to return yopur response in. Just send them their stuff back in the envelope.

At your discretion, add other items: paper, food, shit, anthrax etc.

I usually get all kinds of bullshit in the mail. I just open them all and mix them up and send them back. For example the other day I got a credit card offer and send them my shit mail I got for life insurance and vice versa.

never sent anthrax in there - but for about 3 years now I've been sending all of my other junk mail back to them.
I tear it up and then put it in those and then mail it all back.
saves me the trouble of recycling and it feels nice.

I am seriously considering getting a really high quality shredder so I can send more stuff to them - right now I pass on things that have any info about me on there.

if I had any porn mags I tear out random pages and add those too so that it isn't a complete loss for the person on the other end if they are into that.

Any time you sign an agreement for ANYTHING, akbeit a Internet CD company selling cheap CD's, a supplement company etc... there always is a box where it says(Usually at the end btw),
tick if you want to be removed from the any further promotions etc...

You probably didn't tick it.

They therefore then sold your info to company mailing lists.

Nothing you can do except change addresses or use a PO Box.

I really hate SPAM mail......specially here in the US you have to be careful because they send the credit cards pre-approved(Completely insane if you ask me). All some guy has to do is get
hold of your mail and SSN and he can go on a spending spree at your expense.

I never give the rights to my address anymore. Unless its
for a specific purpose.

I have a Providian Visa, and I think it is the best CC I have ever had. I have no yearly membership fee, 3% interest until May 2003, after that 11%, and it went from $1,000 to $4,000 credit limit. I usually pay my CC off every month, so it's like having 2 months to pay for something without incurring any fees.

And your POINT?

I got a bunch of mail from Providian until they finally sent me a good deal. I signed up, and I like what I have seen so far.

I read the membership agreement and terms & conditions and it sucks compared to what I have. My Shell Visa saves me 5% on Shell gas. My AMEX gives me 0.5-1.5% instant cash rebate. One of my Visas has 0% apr on balance transfers until Feb 2003, another until Jun 2003, and the other until Jan 2004. Providian has absolutely nothing useful to offer me. They send me promos that are like: "credit lines up to $10,000!!!" wow big fucking deal. If they had done any research on me whatsoever they'd know that I would not be interested in that.

Fonz... me? Warik the perfectionist master of detail? Never. I always read the shit in fine detail even the member agreements. I've been receiving that shit ever since I turned old enough to get a credit card. lol

They sent me something just recently that says for each dollar you spend on the card you get a point good for Gift cards from various stores such as Best Buy, and if you spend enough money, you can get free trips to Europe and Austrailia, but I really couldn't care less about that garbage.

I only have 2 credit cards, but that is plenty for me since I don't like having debt. I am actually thinking of canceling the other one because 1 is really plenty as far as I am concerned. Having to many credit cards, and to much debt, can actually hurt you credit rating.

Really, I guess you are right though because I hate being inundated by junk in the mail and especially email.

Too many credit cards does not necessarily equal too much debt. For my age I have a ridiculous amount of credit and everything is always under control. It's always the irresponsible college kids that fuck things up.

-Warik

I don't mind at all....

I have $4-5K of debt on my CC to pay off. It's at 0% APR now, but that will end in about 6 months. At the progress I'm making, it'll take a year or more to get rid of.

I keep getting 0% APR for 1 year offers. Just pay the transfer fee (max $45). That's a lot cheaper to keep a free APR rate while I work at getting the balance taken care of.

Best of all, when you clear out one card by changing who holds the debt, the credit report looks like you paid it off (nobody really bothers to follow where the numbers go it seems), so you keep getting better credit offers. I have platinum and titanium cards and don't make more than $20K/year. In fact, I just canceled two accounts I realize I'm just not using which only improves my credit eligibility.
