Roomy is out of town so I have to look after the pup and damn I forgot what a chore it was to go through puppyhood. Plus between him and mine I get less than a third of the bed!

I know what you mean, bro. I have a 6 month old Akita. I forgot how much work it is! I had to have my 11yr old Akita put to sleep last November, it was honestly the hardest thing I have ever had to do. However, she had such bad arthritis that she could barely move. The toughest part of owning a dog is that time goes by so fast and their life spans are so short. Anyway, great dogs, boxers are a awesome breed.

I know what you mean. It seems like only yesterday I got mine and he is 3 years old now! Are Akitas as mean as everyone says they are? Sorry to hear about your loss.

I think it depends upon how you raise the dog, which determines their temperment. I made sure that my Akita's are well socialized with people and other dogs. They are/were very friendly due to this. However, they have a natural level of aggression, due to the fact that they were originally breed to be hunting/fighting dogs. They were used to hunt bears in northern Japan.
