O.k. so this conversation was going on in my Cutting journal and I was just checking to see if someone can explain this:
What is the importance of cutting splenda out of a pre-contest diet? Or any 'fake' sweetner? How about spices?

I would love to know! I am looking foward to reading your cutting log!
Hey Treilin, what is your current LBM,BF%, weight, height?
Sounds like I want o know your zip code aswell...LOL...hope I made you laugh, not trying to be nosy just trying to picture it.

Trei,
When your Bf started to drop, did you see yourself kind of soft or jiggly in some parts? Or anything not so pretty as you expected? I see parts of me with cellulite on triceps when I flex for example, or if I pinch part of may abdomen or quad...I feel the little fat pouches...I am insane I know... :qt: fat is

Atrificial Sweetners have been shown in *some* studeis to bump insulin levels, even though they are "sugar" free.

As far as spices go.....Form my personal experience - I think the cutting of those is mainly due to ensuring that minerals are accounted for...sodim(obviously), potassium etc.

 Thanks
O.k. sooo you stop adding spices so that your body will take up sodium and potassium from the food you eat? I'm not adding any extra salt already. Is it a competition thing, is that what you mean?
When would you suggest cutting out that stuff? ASAP? OR is 4 weeks out good?

Jiggley :worried:
Yeah I noticed that my skin wasn't as swollen and tight like I could move and pinch the skin around my tri's. I pinch myself all the time now. I can tell what is water and fat by feel because my trainer was showing me. He was pinching my calf and told me that it was about ready to drop.. and I was asking him how he knew. He said it's a feel it gets. :whatever: I can't tell that. The skin starts tightening up though. I have also been using the yohimburn lotion. Are you using that stuff yet?

Im saying that in spice mixes..you arent really sure of the minerals that you might be getting.

I would drop all dairy, added spices, salt, artificial sweetners and fruit(I'll get flack for that one) 4 weeks out

Alrighty, I will do that :) thanks

I think I know what your trainer feels...When I pinch myself I can feel small gel like tabs in the area I am pinching...DaHHHHHHHHH!
I can just picture them as small pouches full of fat....kind of like morsels...Yeah...ah ha...chocoalte chip morsels in the process of melting...
I am one imaginary person!
About the Yohimburne and thermodextrin...I ordered them and have arrived to San Antonio Texas..- I live in central Mexico. and did not want to risk loosing the merchandaise at customs...Not a good thing to say about my country, but true...sometimes it happens sometimes it does not.
So I will be going to SAT soon, it may help I will be a bit leaner, and learn patience comes in different ways...this time in a bottle, ja ja ja...
Have to go cook now, BF is having a friend over for lunch.
Will check on you later you hot mama :qt:

Yeah I wouldn't count on customs either if I were you!
There are some shady people on both sides of the border.
I know.
Have fun at the luncheon
P.S. NO Chocolate chip talk!!!

Another question...My calories for lowering BF are 1320...because I was 120 lbs. X 11 cals per Lb....So now that I am 116.6...should I lower the cals to 1283?
Dang it! I wish I was that good at picking out winning lotto ticket!

S I don't know who would be giving you flack for that, I totally agree with you, that at 4 weeks out all of the above should be cut out.

Just to make things clear, I don't think fruit should be cut from 1s diet unless they're competing and for a short period of time. Ladies fruit isn't bad for you, you just need to know when to have it and which kinds to have.

Splenda and other sweetners like S said are known to increase insulin levels and some girls hold on to water because of it. I know a few that the only thing they changed was removing the splenda and they dropped a few pounds.

Here the thing is that you don't know how your body really reacts to anything on your first go-around. I'd cut out ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that isn't specifically on your diet. If you are going to do a show, do a show! You can always cheat later. But right now keep it as simple as possible so you aren't sitting there the nite of the show going "damn I wonder if that splenda is what's making me look watery..."

THANK you for the added info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe that's what is my problem with water retention right now?? I cut the splenda from my oatmeal as of today. I still have some artificial sweetners in the diet but I'm going to phase them out this week.

hm......water retention...

so:

Artificial sweetners are going away
Spices

What about Things like "liquid" spices?? - Mustard, Ketchup??

ANy diet coke or Crystal light??

Yeah I'm phasing those out too.... Do I have to get rid of mustard... Yeah I know stupid question.
You are just reminding me of the other things I should cut out at the same time.
Crystal Light has been cut, I haven't had ketchup in I don't even remember when, I am cooking up a new batch of meats tonight (ran out after today).... I am not BOILING those.. What I think I'll do... is I have a convection oven I will place the chicken in there and maybe put rosemary or spices in the water (chicken won't even touch them) and cook them that way. What do you think? I'm not actually eating them... just kinda infiusing the aroma.. maybe. Diet pop/drinks will be phased out too.... Just not yet. I'm decreasing them though!

....one thing - if you like cashews/nuts etc.

Switch to natural almonds....only 2 grams of net carbs...ZERO SODIUM....great source of fat

Yup I have been on those!
What about gum????? :worried:

I would drop it a week out...go sugarless - hey - it burns cals right??

Thanks ;) That made my day!!! I do have sugarless gum that's all I chew. I actually used to chew a pack a day.. Now I chew like 2 pieces for an extended period of time... I am a gum addict! :chomp:
I just thought about this... I take that Amplify O2 from the AF store... has NO2 and creatine in it. Also, I'm still on straight creatine... which I know I won't be coming off of for a bit ( So I think) Do you think I should switch out the Amp for just 5g straight up creatine? Both I know will have me also holding some excess water...

I would drop the straight Cr and keep the AMp to get the NO@ boost.

In fact, drop the regular this week(soon), and see how the retention looks.....then you can make another change(s) if possible

O.k. I will do that as of tomorrow.... I already have my stuff mixed up and here at work with me.
Today the water retention has dropped which is why my weight has dropped down some. I also have a prescription diuretic I got from the doc a few months back. I have yet to use it though and she actually had intended for me to use it consistently because of water retention. I figured something else was causing it so I refused to take it at that point... but knew it could come in handy for the final week.

is it a loop or non-loop diuretic??

Using that will change how you carb up...or should anyway

Honest to God I don't know :worried: I don't even have it here or else I would look it up. I know it's one that has been used for a long time and is given to people with high blood pressure too?!?
What's the difference between a loop and non-loop diuretic?

One is a lot harsher.....

the other one is a bit milder and does not deplete potassium.

O.k. well she told me it was a milder one.... but that I may want to eat a banana here and there.... I'll look it up.

For my final question.... The AF supplements from the store.... Do those ever have to be cut out???

What about protein powder? Are you still using that Treil? I know it must go the last week, but should it be cut out before that?

I'm still on protein and glutamine...
No bars only real food
My trainer sends me a new diet each week after we see each other and look at my progress. So not sure when things will drop out...
