Current Lasik Surgery

I recently went to a Lasik speciliast to see about getting this operation done on me. Well to be honest with you I have not done much research in this issue but have read the few posts on here on how great it is. I went to a few message boards this evening that are strictly about Lasik, well I wasn't to thrilled with what the majority of the people had to say about it. I read several, several posts about how unhappy they are, how they wish they would of never had gotten the surgery, how dry their eyes are, etc..........

Well I just wanted to get some more opinions as I am scheduled for an appt. tomorrow and could possibly get the Lasik done late next week. Any advice, information, opinions you might have will be greatly appreciated.

I had my one month post op visit last Wed. My right eye is already at 20/20, and my left is at 20/15. They say it usually takes 3 months before you see final results. Just be sure your Dr. uses corneal mapping. This is VERY IMPORTANT. You will be able to tell right away if he does cause his prices will be higher. Mine cost about $1600 per eye, where as, you could go to Atlanta and have it done for 6-700 per eye. Just remember, this is your sight your talking about, spend the extra and get the better results. I would go through it again tomorrow, I'm so happy with mine.:D

My padre had it done about 6-7 years ago. He had horrible vision before the procedure, now has 20/20. He didn't experience anything negative and said he was glad he did it.

had mine done about 3 years ago.Very easy to do,very satisfied.I recommend it to all,and would do it again if need be.Back then it cost me 1,800 an eye,now it's going for 500.00 an eye.Damnit.

Damn guys you sure are making me feel a whole lot better about my situation! Latamier what exactly is a corneal mapping? Did you guys experience any halos or dry eyes afterwards? Allot of this guys where also complaining about having to wear reading glasses afterwards and having sharp pains at night with upcoming traffic lights.

I do have to admit though, the message boards that I visited had nothing but negative things about Lasik, I saw maybe 2 or 3 positive posts.

By the way its costing me 1998.90 for both eyes.....makes me wonder if its to cheap!

That's probably because the vast majority of people that have the surgery, and our satisfied, have no need to get on the internet and talk to others who have had the surgery.

I paid right around that for my lasik. My doctor said that there was a chance that I could have the halo effect, but I never experienced it.

As for reading glasses, your doctor should tell you that after you hit 40 years old, that you might need reading glasses, but that is part of the aging process, some people do, others don't need them.

the only negative thing for me was at night I would see the stars around lights,as if your eyes were watering. But that cleared after about a week.Go for it dude.

As a matter of fact he did tell me that I could probably be needing reading glasses once I hit 40 but I don't think that will be such a big factor as what my contacts are now!

For a short time you will. The mapping just makes sure that the laser shuts down and only does what it is supposed to do, in case you move or sneeze or something. A definate plus in this case. There is also a new laser in use called a VISEX laser, I would reccomend finding a Dr who uses this. Your eyes may dry out from time to time, like I said, I am 1 month post op, and only use drops maybe once a day. You definately wont be sorry you did it providing you find the right doctor. If you live in the New Orleans area, be very leary of those $500 per eye guys. The Dr. I used was Dr Richard Duffey in Mobile Al. He was one of the Docs that got this whole thing started and approved through the FDA. Definately worth it.

haha that's what my doc said.:D

I know too much about this subject and, unfortunately, I cannot post what I know because of contractual nondisclosure agreements.

Simply stated - wait three years if you are nervous about today's procedures. In three years you won't be.

i had LASIK done on both eyes about 3 1/2 years ago. all my life i was near sighted enough to need glasses for driving and any distance vison; and was boderline on early need for reading glasses.

after the first operation it was better. but still not what i thought my distance vision should be. after six months, they did a "retouch"; basically the whole procudure all over again.

my distance vision is ASTOUNDING!!!!!!!!!! the clarity and quality takes my breath away sometimes. no more squinting for the alarm clock! i had halos around headlights and street lights at night for a few months, but that gradually faded away.

my need for reading glasses did not increase, but did not get better either. LASIK can fix one or the other, but not both. eventually i will need a pair of cheap reading glasses from walgreens.

for me, LASIK was worth the hefty price. i only wish it was avaiable in my early teens!!!!!!!
