Uh huh............they can infect through Java and "Active X" applets.

They're not as prominent as mail viruses but they are there.

but the question remains what is the purpose of active x controlls?

for a compter at home that is just your regular everyday PC??

activex controls are just little miny activex programs. they serve alot of purposes. for instance, alot of the windows gui is actually a series of activex controls, like the little x at the top of a window that lets you close it.

active X controls are little modules that can be used by the operating system. They are like add-ons, for instance when a programmer wants to make a pretty toolbar, they would download an active X control that has that toolbar built in, and allows the user to further customize that toolbar.

However, the recent common usage of active X controls takes advantage of its ability to be transmitted over the internet. Sometimes you go to some website, and it asks you for permission to install an active X control.. you have to be careful because you are basically downloading and executing program from internet, which can very well be a trojan horse or a virus

he works with security agencies

so I think he knows what he is doing, but unfortunaly he cant help me for a month or two......
