Cruises w/kids?

Anyone ever taken thier kids on a cruise with them? I'm thinking of doing this but, am not sure how expensive or how entertained they would be. I know that some of them offer children activities. Or any suggestion on a good vacation that is small child activity oriented. I don't want to take them to anything like Disney world because I don't think they are old enough to really appreciate something like that yet(4 & 5yrs old) Thanx, Supertech

They would enjoy a cruise for sure. There's all sorts of activities lined up for children that age. Treasure hunts, arcades, some cruises have a sleepover for all the kids in a big play area. They'd have fun on the ports as well, especially on the beaches.

We took a 7 day cruise this past July with our kids. They are 9 and 6 years old. They had a ball! My 6 year old really enjoyed the activities that were geared for her age group. We went to the U.S. Virgin Islands and the cost was $2500. Not a bad price at all. The cruise was with Carnival.

If you have anymore questions just PM me and I will tell you more! Good luck!

Yep every cruise line should have a kids club where you can stick them during the at sea days while you lounge at the pool/bar. Then all the ports at least in the Caribbean and Alaska have some kid's only excursions and there are plenty for the whole family.

We went rafting in Junuea and were in a paddle boat and the boat next to us, was just paddled by the guide, but he was letting kids take turns and they were having a blast.

There's also the arcades, sports decks, crafts, board games, puzzles and TONS of swimming pools. Plus all you can eat ice cream everyday for 5 hours. I'm sure they'd love it.

I think the cruise is the best vacation, because other than jumping off the boat, they aren't going to run off anywhere and you still get your fun time.

Check the cruise line to make sure they indeed have safe activities for kids.
make sure they provide you a listing of those activities, not just lip service.

Make sure the teenage kids are in different activities than the younger ones.

We went on a Disney 7 day out of Port Canaveral FL with our then 9 year old and she loved the Oceaneers club and with the wrist band on her and a pager with us, we felt she was safe.
The Disney shows are good for kids and Adults and there are 2 Adults only bars and Resturants as well..

make sure they have Separate pools for adults, families and Kids only.

I've heard Disney cruises are excellent. I'd feel comfortable taking my 10 y.o. on a cruise more so than a regular vacation to another country...I know no one could run off with her while we're at sea. Yeah...I'm over protective and paranoid at times!

We (husband and I and another couple) took our first cruise last April on Norwegian Cruise Lines....AVOID THEM! Our entire experience was dissapointing, even most of their shore excursions. We wound up cancelling the last shore excursion and went out on our own in Mexico since we'd been there a few times before. Norwegian also didn't have a whole lot for the kids to do. At least you know that Disney is kid oriented!
