There are three major credit bureaus used in pulling credit ratings. You need to be clean on all three. Make sure you get a report individually from all three and not a combined report.

If there is anything negative on your report (even if its true) dispute it with the reporting agency. The agency by law has 30 days to resolve the dispute. They will send a letter to the creditior (often times these get ignored), and if the creditior does not respond within the 30 days, the item will be removed.

These are the steps that companies that claim they can clear your credit take.

Peace

Kronk - thanks for the input. As a follow up - average cost per report?

Each reporting agency allows one free report per year. Also if you are disputing anything on your report it is free. Otherwise its like $10

PM me your info and all your credit card numbers and I'll check it for you too. J/K.

Kronk and everyone pretty much hit the nail on the head. Check with transunion or equifax. Your bank would just have to pull a report or use whatever service they outsource too.

Here's some of the language off of our regulation B, which lists contact info. Although we are a commercial equipment company personal credit is a big factor--- QQ --

If we obtained information from a consumer reporting agency as part of our consideration of your application, its name, address, and toll-free telephone number is shown below. The reporting agency played no part in our decision and is unable to supply specific reasons why we have denied credit to you. You have a right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act to know the information contained in your credit file at the consumer reporting agency. You have a right to a free copy of your report from the reporting agency, if you request it no later than 60 days after you receive this notice. In addition, if you find that any information contained in the report you receive is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to dispute the matter with the reporting agency. You can find out about the information contained in your file (if one was used) by contacting:
