oh hell yeah rex, you'll find out eventually as well
actually, i had 2 job offers, and i barely searched. one was for a diesel apprentice position. would've had to sign into a 4 year contract deal for that job though, become union (dunno jack about the pros/cons of unions, don't care), relocate (couldn't afford it) and instantly dump $3K into a tool box and tools (didn't have that $$$ either). somewhat decent earnings to be made from the job in the long run, but i'm kinda glad i didn't find a way to make it work.
had a second offer, working on an oil rig. i took that job. it was ok, but being away from home so much was a real killer. i had a fiance (still have her), a son that wasn't even a year old, and her daughter. after 6 months, i decided i wanted to be home more. had to quit.
finding a job after that wasn't as easy as all the recruiter said it would be. we had moved cross country, i needed work, and we weren't in a great area (and still aren't). couple applications in, only one return phone call, and it was for the shittiest job i had applied for. i knew the recruiters had lied about a lot of stuff, i didn't suddenly think that because i was job searching that i was going to find out they had been telling the truth.
just wait til you go to TAPS classes. for a week straight they kept telling us how much MORE money we'll need to make out in the "real world" because in the military, your healthcare, housing, and food are all paid for. well, all 3 are complete shit in the military anyway. TAPS classes weren't about preparing you to get out of the marine corps, they were about scaring you to re-enlist.
Gambino - in the 17 months i've been jobless, i've still had a legitimate income and bring my fair share of money into this house. plus i'm the one taking care of the kids all the time, and, as mentioned before, i'm back in college. so it all works out to be pretty fair you could say.
