Could this be a serious problem?

My shoulder has been hurting like crazy lately. The pain will shoot up to my neck to the point where I can't move..

I've been taking IBprofen everyday and it helps. I'm also starting to take Glucosamine, is there anything else I can take that will help with the joint?

I can't raise my arm above my head or behind my back as it will hurt like hell. I have seen a doctor and she's pretty sure it's just a muscle that hasn't healed properly, but it's been like 2 months now, and I'm pretty sure it's in the joint.

how did you do the injury? what isthe pain like? fine/sharp pain moving in a line to your neck...like nerve pain?

sounds like it might be rotator cuff...maybe the supraspinatus

try this for me....stand up with your hands by your side, palms against the sides of yours legs

try and raise up your hands like your now flapping like a bird, except just try and go up, keep the hands lined up with the side of your body and just raise them outwards. how high can you get

dpending on the injury u may have even dislocated it or worse, im just speculating without details of the injury or examination.

but if your in doubt, as your doctor to re-examine or get a 2nd opinion, im sure he/she wont mind, they know best and get to examine you whereas im an unqualified person thousands of miles away!

I also think it may be a rotator cuff problem. If you are still lifting, stop and rest for a couple of weeks. Go see another doc, who is more into sports med.
Also, start doing broomstick stretches and other RC work, to rehab those cuffs.
Hope I helped.

Thanks so much. Where can I find RC work?? I will stop working my upper body for a few weeks and see what happens.

I'm not on my own computer, so I can't shoot you a link, but if you do a search in the forums, you may turn up something.
I have posted some RC stretches in the Monster Muscle forums[the other place I post], go there and search using "shoulder" or "shoulder pain". You should find them there.
Hope they help, they helped me and others. Give them time, they are not a quick fix, so add them into your training, and after the rehab is done, continue them as prehab on shoulder/chest/bench days.
Hope I helped...

if you go to the link sticky on the top of the board, go to the merck home manual and look for the sports injury section, as far as i can remember it has common injuries and rehab for them
