CostCo isn't that great

because they have so much shit there you go for some groceries and end up spending more than you would've just going to a regular grocery store. Especially if you take your wife. And don't even go there if your hungry. We went to just pick up a few things and left with 2 shopping carts full.

As far as prices, some items were "ok" and others were really good. The bakery dept. is awesome---12 giant muffins for $4.95, 18" diameter apple pies $7.50, etc.

My find of the day was a jumbo saute non-stick pan, this suckers about 2.5' long.

That and I was impressed with the meat dept. Picked up a few ribeyes for tonight and accidentally threw a couple boxes of coconut and lime shrimp in the cart also and a huge bag of small red potatoes. So tonight should be pretty good.

I'm glad that place isn't next door.

I usually end up spending more than I want to when I go there too -- some of their prices are great & some are so-so.....but their meats are awesome!! Great quality...

Find a friend with a costco card. I don't have a membership, yet I can exploit all of the good prices. The best thing I find is the meat. Everything else I can take and leave, but when you buy steaks and chicken in bulk it is such a drastically better deal. You can freeze it, and then voila. Meat for a long time.

I have a fridge-sized freezer -- I buy a pack of Tilapia & a pack of chicken every 2 weeks. Their chicken is the cleanest chicken I've ever bought -- I get more out of it. The $1.99/lb chicken at the grocery store had so much skin, fat, etc on it - I threw half of the package away.

I find great deals there. Meat as mentioned. Big bags of coffee, they have starbucks, saves at least $10. Basically anything that can be frozen or is a cleaning product is huge savings. Booze too if you're in a state that doesn't require you to buy from a state store. I was in CA, spent $200 on $380 worth of wine. I know what you mean though. I go in wanting to spend $250-$300, come out a grand later with a new monitor and half the things I meant to.

Cheaper gasoline at their pump.
Cheaper meat.
But .. you are right about walking in for one item and
coming out with a truck load.

Sometimes. They have great lamb. Fucking great lamb.

ya man i am about to go there tommorrow or so and looking for some good cheap protein sources... deer season is ways away so thats my fall set up but i hear buffalo steaks are cheap/good source and taste good as well..

basically i am looking for red meat in bulk..any suggestions?

I bought one of those vacuum sealer jobbies a while back which helps avoid freezer burn on the food I buy in bulk. Great investment. The meats I buy are usually 96% lean ground beef, top sirloin, tenderloin, chicken breast out the ass, and big bags of frozen shrimp and scallops. Good deals on egg beaters too. You can just portion out what your serving sizes are seal them up, and you're set. They have dried spices in bulk, not huge things, but big enough to save you a ton. Bertolli olive oil, which is good enough by the gallon. Big bags of brown basmati rice, oats, everything. I saw a Harley there last week, so whatever. The only things I need to go to the regular store for are little things like new brushes for my sonicare or little things. It's like a grand once a month for 3,000 clean calories a day. Solid.

Jnevin - Costco sells the replacement brushes for the Soniccare too -- where I am they are cheaper for a set of 2.

Haven't tried the Tilapia yet-although I seen it and it looked very good. I will say the jumbo scallops are very good. I should know as I just pulled them off the grill about 45 minutes ago. Fortunetly for me no one else around here likes them so I got to eat the whole pack. The wife ended up having leftovers from last night as I cooked a ton of stuff: ribeyes, kabobs, grilled onions, red potatoes, 2 kinds of shrimp and tomatoes from our garden. All in about an hour. And then, if you were able, I have 3 different cheesecakes in the fridge. I don't mess around when im hungry. That and steaks are one of the easiest things to cook not to mention fast. I love grilling cause you can do your potatoes and such while the coals are getting hot and you can put such a huge amount of food on at once.

its ok but I can find just as good deals elsewhere with sales/coupons

Once I'm done my competition, I'm coming over your house for dinner!! Wow that all sounds good....

they'd be a lot better if they sold more organic produce and grass fed free range animal products... (not to sound like a stupid hippee though)

for me it's a life saver. I used to spend $50+ per week on basic things like chicken, tuna, turkey, veggies, toilet paper, etc... Now I spend like $100 every three weeks or so.

someone understands the value

when you eat a shitload of chicken a week its really the best for hte most consistently priced meats

plus by it being a membership store you keep wal-mart scum out of there

I own so much costco stock its ridiculous.
