any of you ever have a cortisone injection in your elbow joint before? I'm going in to get one today and was wondering if it worked out well for you?

Just be careful with it. It can weaken the tendons and cause the problem to be worse. Pain is sometimes a good thing. It tells you not to work that particular body part.

Good luck

Thanks bro. My problem is that i injured (hyper extension) just before x-mas of last year and the pain is greatly limiting my gymtime, plus Iv'e been going to physical therapy for months for the issue and the pain is still there. Did an MRI and results were flid in the elbow and a little inflamation. I just want this shit to go away so i can hit it 100% again!!

take a break from the weights until it gets better then you can ramp up on the weights and get back in shape...as long as you are using it, its only going to get worse. Eventually you will need surgery and be out of the weight room 3X as long. I know it sucks but when you have an injury that's wht you have to do.

that is true, but..there are different types of treatment you can get such as physical therapy, personal trainer. etc. you dont have to layoff completely. i had a shoulder injury and they started me on a rehabilitation program w/personal trainer and they made my gym program for me. i couldnt do a single pullup or db presses for more than 40lbs 8wks ago. now i'm almost back full swing again. can do weighted pull ups and back up to 85's on incline:D

King- Glaad the therapy worked out for you, i was in PT for months and my shit got worse:( It felt good getting the massage, heat/ice, and stim but the stretching and weights seemed to irritate it more. Anyway, I just had the inject and my elbow feels no pain right now, but the numbing medication they shot prior to should wear off soon so I have some IB's handy to fix that problem. :p I was trippin when the doc pulled out that huge 2" f**king needle and said "ok relax, this may pinch a little" It felt like I was getting stabbed in the core of my existance or somthing, truly bazar. Overall It really didnt hurt much and from what im told the next 2 days it's going to hurt a bit from the trama but after 10 days they said to hit the gym and try to work it hard! WOOOOOHOOOO!!

They work, ive had them in the eye socket, however for joint pain, I would avoid them at all costs. The pain is due to swelling which is the bodies way of increasing bloodflow and healing injured tissue. I would guess your having it done because of tendonitis or something similar and I can tell you right now, cortisone will not only inhibit healing but make you more porne to injury. If you want to recover from the injury check into prolotherapy at www.prolotherapy.com

I had excrusiating tendonitis, I couldnt curl 20lbs and after a few prolo treatments Im at 99%. and it hasnt gotten worse yet.

you should use a ton load of ice on the elbow

and do not do those exercices that produce pain.
Corsitone shots do NOT work, nor physical therapy. (I know i have been there). My elbows suck for the moment, so the same for me. Ice, ice, ice and the use of lighter weights. The faster you do that, the faster recovery will come.
Surgery is the last thing of course, but no garantee that you will never get it again.
For the cortisone shots, they might help, but you must take a break off, training and cortisone is a no-no.
