DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A western Colorado coroner said Monday that two hospitals allowed vital organs to be removed from a man before they had proven he was brain dead, and he declared the death a homicide.

I heard about this on the radio this morning.

No, the coroner will not charge the docs with murder, although he is asking for future similiar situations that a clear status be given before they start exhuming the organs.

the point is they probably wouldn't have messed it up if they weren't so eager to harvest his organs

i trained next to australias premier transplant hospital, and the only reason this would have have happened is if the donor was about to die in the next 5 minutes or less, guaranteed. a few minutes idfference really is the difference between an organ being viable or not.

it was when i was going through uni that they actually changed a law which meant that they had to wait until the heart stopped beating before removing anything...it was a big step at the time

anyway i know that this story sounds totally seedy, but really, it wasnt like they got a live patient from a ward and butchered him/her, it was probably administrative
