Corn Syrup= Dextrose?

I went to my grocery store today.. they don't have just "dextrose", and if I remember correctly, someone mentioned that corn syrup is the same thing as dextrose, and I do have that at my store.. A big jug of it.

Does it work the same?

Also.. there is no label which gives the nutrional info on it.. what would 1 tbls of this stuff be?
 
in the grocery store, dextrose = glucose (Dextrose is glucose combined with water)

there are numerous corn syrups: maltodextrins, high-fructose corn syrup , .... which are determined by their DE (dextrose equivalent)
 
Anthrax- Am I reading that right... they're just differnt types of dextrose or they just all fall under the same category?
 
Corn syrup in either its liquid or dry form is available in varying dextrose equivalents (DE)
The DE is a measure of the reducing sugar content of the syrup calculated as dextrose and expressed as a %of the total dry weight.

you (the food industry) increased the DE by hydrolysis of the corn starch
the more the DE the more sweet your syrup

but as a consumer you won't find different corn syrups

just ask for glucose (the solid form)
 
If you want Dextrose, what you are looking for is corn SUGAR.

Corn starch and corn syrup are both different things, all however derivatives from corn.
