I know HP have the DC4000 DC5000 etc. which do it for you
but do does anyone know of any others?

VCR to DVD recorder is the easier way I think. They are down to $150 is most stores now. Sam's Club has one for $130.

i use a video card from http://www.hauppauge.com/ to record from TV and external sources like a VCR. I usually encode everything into the DivX format because you can fit 6-7 hours in good quality on a dvd but if it has to be a MPEG2 compliant DVD i use TMPGEnc DVD Author: http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html but there a lots of DVD authoring tools on the market now some even freeware.
Any DVD-writer will do to burn the dvd, but i like the products from Plextor http://www.plextor.com/english/products/716A.htm , this device can analyze your burnt dvds because only if it perfect from the beginning it will be readable in other drives and still in several years.
