conspiracy theory 101

Do you understand how little we actually know about Iraq and the rest of the middle east?? ALL our opinions are formed by what we watch on television. This might sound obvious, but take a step back for a minute…have you actually been to Iraq? Have you seen it with your own eyes? Do you really know if it’s bad at all over there?

If the government knew what they were doing, and they do, they would create several versions of the same reality, and let people choose either way and let the people BELIEVE they are making their own informed decisions, when in fact they are only choosing from two pre-determined view points, both controlled by the government,

The masses have been kept in the blind since the beginning of civilization, why would it be any different now?

If you have been blind all your life, how do you even know you’re blind?

huh?

The Soviet Union used to show films of America during the Cold War, and all they showed were a bunch of bums lying on the streets and people robbing houses and beating up others....propoganda shit.

I know a good deal about the middle east because I have a few friends who grew up in various parts (Abu Dhabi, Lebanon, Iraq) and they tell me how it is.

Actually the US gov tends to take stock in knowing their enemies.

But somehow I suspect you're suggesting we are all blind because the US controls the media and thus feeds us our perception.

I spent a year as a kid in Chad. And for the most part there isn't much of a disparity here. Sure there is a level of propaganda, but it's certainly not on the Pravda levels you're suggesting.

BTW, want a better conspiracy theory. NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), the guys who decide how much a pound weighs, how large/small an acre get's it's budget from the National Security Agency.

In fact, most of the NIST employees are simply loaned to NIST from the NSA.

This would make a kickass movie.

Like... a movie about the war from the Iraqi perspective.

They could show thriving Iraqi villages with the best tents/caves money can buy and show Saddam Hussein kissing babies and handing out food to the poor and crying every night when George Bush calls him on the red phone to talk shit.

Then switch over to the Oval Office where GW is kicked back in his chair smoking a cigar and laughing maniacally while Dubya rips off his mask to reveal.... Al Gore!

Its the other way around. The government doesn't control the media. The media is controlled by monied interests who are the same interests who control the US government.

Next time you watch NBC news, just remember that they are owned by General Electric - the US's largest military contractor.

The best propaganda is true. You show the facts and put your own spin on them.

US propaganda does this. It selects from the broad spectrum of facts just those that create the impression sought. Other relevant or mitigating information is excluded.

As they say in Star Wars "your focus determines your reality".

The US uses "human rights" diplomacy for much the same reasons. The human rights abuses of countries it wishes to vilify are focused on or played up in the media. Those abuses in their allies (or even the US's own abuses at home or abroad) are played down, excused or ignored.

This also creates the perception that the US is morally superior, protecting the human rights and freedom of people worldwide from morally dubious non-american ideologies and leaders.
