so iv smoked for about 4 years .. after 4 years steady i stopped for 6 months .. last weekend i had one after a night of drinking and started right back again. i hate these things .. makes me feel weak that i cant kick them for good ... anyone have any success stories for kickin this shit for good.
Yes you most certainly CAN.
I smoked a pack a day for 19 yrs. No joke. I never attempted to quit (besides when I was pregnant with my son) at all during those 19 yrs.
Then, i planned out my quit once I was turning 35 and my doctor said she wouldnt prescribe any more Birth control for me if i continued to smoke (health risks increase dramatically after 35).
You have to make a plan. You cant just wake up one day and decide to quit. Well, you can. BUt your chances of success are diminished.
I knew what day i was quitting. I also made a committment to someone else for my quitting (i quit on Fathers Day 2005 as a present to my father). This committment helped me be accountable to not only myself, but to my promise to someone else. Not saying you have to do this, but it helped me.
I went to my doctor and she prescribed me wellbutrin for 6 weeks. I did this in advance (planning). I also used the nicotine patch to help wean myself down from the nicotine in my system. This approach really worked for me.
I also kept things like carrot sticks and licorice whips in my car (where i smoked a lot) and whenever Id get a craving, id slowly nibble on the licorice for 7 minutes (as long as it takes to smoke a cig) until the craving went away.
the thing about cravings is this: the cravings will go away whether you smoke or not. So once you get a craving for a smoke, just know that within 10 mins or so, that craving will be gone regardless.
I havent taken a puff since and dont plan on it. Bino and KB said i couldnt do it. But I proved them wrong.
