Computer will not boot up with new pci card....

My new ultra ata 133 hard drive is too slow for firewire video uptake in my system.

The computer store sold me a SIIG ultra ata/133 pci controller that should have solved the problem.

Problem is that my computer will not boot up with the new pci card in place. It keeps asking for a boot up drive or something whether I have the new hard drive connected or not.

Suggestions?

Sounds like it's taken the place of your primary IDE channel.

I've got an older mobo that would not accept a Maxtor/Promise add on PCI IDE card, no how, no way. (When I popped it into another machine, it worked fine.) So you may be enscrewed. Sorry.

But check the BIOS for "boot off-board SCSI first" and say NO. (Yes, I know it's not SCSI, but that's how the sucka fools the motherboard into coping with it.)

Also try other PCI slots, swapping cards around if necessary.

did you have to install a driver?
I don't know....never got the system to boot up and try to communicate with the pci card.

It came with a floppy. Should I install the floppy and hope that helps they system communicate with the pci card?

I did not see any other cards from other mfrs to choose from. I would have preferred adaptec due to good luck with products.

Logic might indicate that hooking the old master hard drive up to the new card might work. Then again....things might blow up.

i THINK MY OLD HARD DRIVE IS AN ATA/66.

tHE CARD SAYS IT HAS FULL BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY BACK TO ATA/33.

Hooking up the old master to it did not work!

Had a scare even after I removed teh new pci card. Got the old 10 seconds to boot up message.
