computer problem ***take a peek***

ok, the first problem is when I visit bellsouth.net and yahoo games... every single time, I get a pop up box telling me to download some java applet. Everytime I down load it, nothing happens. I can access bellsouth.net whether I download it or not, but I can not access yahoo games in either case. It seems like bellsouth.net wants me to download this thing every single time.

second thing... when I visit certain sites like sunsentinel.com, ajc.com, and others... (it is ALWAYS these sites -100% of the time) for a few minutes, my browser works but then it freezes. I end up having to do a cntr+alt+delete to use task manager to close it with END TASK. The entire browser window just hangs. And it does it on the sites every single time.

what causes this?

No one answers till you comment on shag carpeting.

Well let me get over there and view that. Honestly, I was avoiding that thread like the plague... I better click on it.

reinstall internet explorer. you've done something to it that makes it freeze: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/download.asp

whenever an application (like internet explorer) freezes, there's usually something really bad going on (like a nasty plug in you didn't intend to install but did anyway). kill the version you've got and start over. if that doesn't fix the problem, you've got issues with your operating system. not good but unlikely

LOL!!! make sure you've enabled the java settings. On IE 5.0 + its under options. I think its under security settings on 6.0...

Be more specific. I clicked on options>>security>>custom>> and enable for java scripting was already checked.

the only thing Java on that security setting is ENABLE JAVA SCRIPTING. it is already checked to enable.

6.0 came with xp. Look under security settings for a section on Java make sure the enabled selections are set.

Well then do what hellorhih2o said to do. It doesn't take long and it won't screwup anything. It just writes over the existing installation of Explorer.

I am going to do this.

The last time I took someone's advice on reinstalling something off EF, I lost the entire hard drive.

So if I lose anything... and I mean ANYTHING.. with this reinstallment, I am personally going to butt fuck every associated with this chat board. Whether they clicked on this link or not.

(got to get my butch act going...boy band workout at 1PM)

Ok... I started it. Too late for everyone to back out now.

We either all good or we all gonna be unhappy.

hey hey hey... I ain't gay. Didn't you read the part about everyone being unhappy. That applied to me too.

Did not work... still getting the prompt to install java virtual machine.

Hey now, don’t start threatening people who are trying to help yo! And besides, you have to mess up really bad to screw up an ie installation.

Just don’t fiddle with any of the options unless you’re 100% sure what you’re doing and DON’T install ANYTHING you’re not 110% sure what it is. If "Gator Inc" wants you to install anything, run for your life!

Oh lord.. I have had a round with Gator Inc before. I thought I would never get that off my machine.

cookies and tem files won't freeze up your browser. norton tools might fix the problem but it's usually a heck of a lot easier just to do a clean install. especially since ie is free.

i didn't read all the replies so im hoping im not repeating someone else's advice.. but what OS are you using? u might want to try downloaded the latest service pack or update for your OS, it could be a bug. or upgrade to IE 6.

If you a Windows XP user

By default, the Windows XP operating system comes with the Internet Explorer 6 browser without the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed, which is required to run Java programs such as Yahoo! Games.

At this time Microsoft no longer provides a download of the JVM,
download Sun's Java plug-in by visiting

http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

Sun is the creator of Java, and their plug-in will allow you to play Yahoo! Games.
