Computer People - IE issues, questions

I think my browser is fucked up and I am not sure how to go about and fix things.

When I am on the internet, my toolbar randomly stops working - like the back button, the home button and even the top toolbar (favorites). Also, I get a lot more 'error' messages lately. I have to close the internet and re-open. but the toolbars eventually stop working again. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the problems.

I am running IE 5 (.1?) on XP Service Package 2 ..... I would re-install but it has been used on 3 PCs already and it is my understanding that I cannot reinstall now. Right? Or wrong?

Any thoughts on what I should do?

I don't quite understand what you mean why you can't reinstall it cause you use it on 3 pc's or something?

Firefox will work. But if you use alot of macromedia and stuff through your browser firefox does not support it.

With win XP you can uninstall and reinstall your browser with out a disk.

1st thing i would try is deleting your temp internet files/folders and clear your cookies.
Then run some anti-spyware program. Spyware could more than likely be affecting it.

If still persists after that reinstall the browser

I don't see why you need to reinstall Windows just for the browser. IE is up to version 6.1 SP1 which XP Service Pack 2 should have gotten you. You might try reinstalling SP2.

I reinstalled SP2, installed updates, ran a check, and have cleared all cookies/cache/etc. Still persists. Think I'll give Firefox/Mozilla a shot and see if that helps.

BTW, thanks for the thoughts ... I hit who I could for the help. I hope this problem clears up - it is ANNOYING.

Firefox/mozilla is a better browser - and its not completely different than IE layout wise so getting used to it isnt an issue.

Better spyware protection and internet security too. You'll be happy you made the switch.

Like dial_tone said you should upgrade to the newest version of IE if you continue to use it.

And most importantly, republicans don't know jack about computers so dont listen to them. :)

you should run a anti-spyware now. You would be amazed how much you can find on your comp. Even if its not the issue its good thing to have.
