...please help. I can't get my Limewire Pro to work. I downloaded it. It just won't connect. I click on the icon, I get the hourglass thingy(like it's doing something) but then nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. It's pissing me off. I payed almost 19 bucks. :worried: Damn it! WTF am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Thanx.

Firewall may be blocking the ports that limewire needs open, or if you are on a router you may need to open those ports directly to your client machine.

Geeez. I really am a computer-tard. What's an ISP? What do I do about it?

Internet Service Provider. They block ports sometimes for programs that "abuse" bandwidth, like ftp servers and http servers. They have been doing it with file sharing programs as well.

Take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

ISP = Internet Service Provider....the dudes who you get your internet connection from.

Some of them have a nasty habit of throttling/capping/blocking the traffic on common ports.

ISP's actually do that? That's shady. It almost pisses me off.
I changed my firewall options... Limewire didn't work. I got risky(I like to live on the edge) and totally turned my firewall OFF. Limewire still didn't work. Now, my firewall is back on and I'm back at square one.
If I'm having this problem with Limewire.... won't I have the same problem with torrents? Or no?

open up a command prompt and type

ipconfig

If the first three numbers in your ip address are 192, your dsl or cable modem is acting as a router and you need to open those ports straight through to your client machine.

ok, they will probably confuse you at first, but there are a lot of torrent people on here that know what's up.

download utorrent, install it, open it up, and then tell us if you have a red, green, or yellow icon in the bottom/middle of the screen.

i actually read some survey done by some internet research group, and they said 55% of all upload traffic on the internet is from torrents.

I believe it. It's pretty much how I watch TV these days.

pet peeve alert: you get an hourglass. you don't get an hourglass THINGY.

sorry. i can't help it.

uninstall then reinstall. Make sure u have the latest version of java. when u run it for the first time make sure u have no other programs running or windows open because when it is run for the first time a options window will open up behind everything. this window will give you the option to unblock the windows firewall, if you have norton, mcaffee firewalls or internet security suites also, disable them or when u get a pop up from them, allow limewire to access the internet. i know most company internet connections block these type of sharing programs but u shouldnt have a problem with your home ISP
