My comp at home will not connect to the net. It does connect, however, I cannot browse on the net. DSL tech told me that it was my win socks but cannot help me in that area. Tech support has ruled EVERYTHING out so Im quite sure that it is winsock problesm. Are there any programs that I can d/l to fix this problem? Win socks are corrupt I guess. How do I fix it?

call your ISP and tell them to fix the problem NOW!!! tell them to send a tech to your house if they have to.

try typing this in your address bar: 213.29.206.1 and see if it takes you anywere.

Yea Im using XP. we went to the command prompt(black sceen) I guss this is ms dos and pinged different ip numbers...pinging the ip numbers worked but when we pinged yahoo.com(or anyother site) i was getting nothing...thatys why they are saying it is socks
i dunno though

also tech support checked my lines...maybe this was when they were checking the servers...EVEYTHING is runnign properly..they arent giving me anything else to go on...they are bellsouth

Try this...

Right CLick Network Neighboorhood. Goto Properties. Click where you see TCp/IP. Select Properties make sure everything is set to automatic or obtain Ip address. Make sure you have client for Microsoft networks there. TCP/IP might be the problem. Are you using a router?

also, once you have checked out your tcp settings go to (in IE) tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Setup -> New Internet Connection -> broadband that requires log on and password.

Have you ever been online through xp from this box before?

If you can successfully ping IP addresses, but can't ping hostnames, you've got a problem with your DNS Servers. Call tech support back and tell them to help you configure them. Tell them you can ping ips, but not hostnames.
