Computer/Internet/Router question

Ok, I moved into this apartment and we are provided with a T1 line. The catch is that we can only have 250megs total network usage per 24 hour period. I went over this limit in a about 6 hours and I was gone for at least 3 of those 6 hours.

The system tracks your usage by IP addresses I think, so does anyone think getting a router would do the trick?

who is your cable internet provider?

i got comcast here and they attempt to charge for extra IP's with roommates. I just bought a linksys router and set up a network from there. If they are tracking from the modem though, then it doesn't matter if you have a router or not.

That seem like a pretty unreasonable limit. is there any other cable modem companies around?

I'm sure you can go through your voice or cable provide and get broadband access. Fuck 250MB.

No you just have to anti up $30-50 for a real ISP depending on where you live. If you dowload a lot you know it's more than worth it. 250MB a month is good for light surfing and that's it. No point of it even being a T1. You'd might as well have dial up in terms of downloading because back in the day I used to DL 250MB worth of divx movie off Morpheus on dial up. The bulk of my downloading was done overnight while I was asleep.

I have two jacks in my room, I guess thats a total of 500megs but still its unreasonable. I would like to get cable but thats another payment I would have to deal with. I'll have to think about this one

dude, I think they charge you for 250MB per household, not per jack.

two people are supposed to live in this room, so I pay for them both. No way I am having another person live in this room unless its a girl that would sleep in teh same bed as me. Thats why there's 2 jacks, and they are different. When one went down I ran the ethernet cable across the room to my comp.
