Someone was asking about diet stuff the other day. Found this article while dinking around and thought it might be of interest to some of the very, very new people. I know that this probably will not apply but It might help 1 in 1000 of those who read.

Common Sense Foods

Here's a little secret about exercise and fitness. What you eat has a huge impact on your desired results. Here is the secret: Train hard, Eat right, Supplements if needed, Repeat. If your serious about fitness the main nutrient that you need to get a handle on are protein, carbs, and fat. We'll examine the different food choices here to give you a baseline to make your abs hard as ice.
The Good

Oatmeal - the carb choice of champions. These are slow acting carbs and are ideal bodybuilding breakfasts. Buy 100% rolled oats, and stay away from the flavored packs. Eat it like a man plain. Nobody said any of this stuff would taste good...

Cottage Cheese - Eat the lowest fat variety that you can stomach. There are a ton of cheap protein grams here, low carbs and moderate fat. For me, 4% rocks, 2% is ok, but I'd rather eat rocks than the fat free kind. You can always mix it in the blender with a scoop of protein and you got pudding.

Tuna - Yet another delightful meal. High protein, Cheap, no carbs. This is a great bang for your buck. And how can resist the taste. Try the prepackage herb flavored variety, mmhh, mmhh good...

Meat (beef / chicken) - Go for steaks that have the words round or loin, never buy anything that says rib and you'll be ok. Stay away from prime and get 90% ground. Try some dried, but never fried. Chicken is best if white along with Turkey too. Eggs taste great cooked through and through.

Fruits / Vegetables - What can I say, eat them dumb ass. Go for green when you have the choice.

Protein Powder - If your serious about muscle than it's a food, otherwise the other choices will do you just fine. Nothing in protein powder can not be found in regular food, it is just easier to prepare and consume when you are trying to get extra grams. It sometimes hard to get 1.5g / lb of body weight so these shakes can be a life saver.

The okay list

The bad seemed so much more dramatic. But this list contains second rate foods. They do the job, but are not going to win many awards.

Natural Peanut Butter - Try and stay away from the regular stuff, its has all kind of nasty ingredients. but it you can't at least go for low-fat. If your worried about the fat, pour it off. I must admit that I can not stand the taste, oh well, it' all about trying to stay clean...

Nuts - Lots of calories here, good fats too. Great if your a hard gainer, not so good if your not,

Rice, Pasta, Bread - these are all ok foods, but if your watching your carbs this will not help.

Milk / Yogurt - Milk is not the greatest choice for building muscle, the fat is too high and the benefits too low. Yogurt on the other hand is full of live active cultures that keep your digestive system in tip top shape.

The Ugly

Most people don't need much explanation here. All the good stuff that we all really like - no good for you. That being said most of use do not want to eliminate these foods from out diet. The trick is to moderate them and use them are treats for being a good boy or girl.

here is a quick review:

Let's Review

Fruit good, Fruit juice bad

IMO, natty pb goes with the good. tastes better than reg pb and its an EFA

I have some spinache pasta. Where would you guys classify them? I was gonna say the okay list but just thought id ask a few experts

Pasta = high carbs. I guess it would depend on what time of day you were eating it and how much. Is the pasta it's self made from the spinach? What kind of content does it have per serving? what else is being mixed in? all of these things will dictate the quality of the food.

usually i add just a small amount of spaghetti sauce (i know it has sugars) and tomato sauce . I will check the nutrient info later tonite
