Coffee definitely contains psychoactive compounds other than caffeine

I know this for certain because I drank a lot of coffee over a two week period then quit on Saturday. Yesterday and today I had green tea which has a significant amount of caffeine but I didn't get nearly the same effects. Less of a go-getter attitude, just more awake and stressed out. I know g. tea is healthier but I like the effects of coffee better.

Anyone else?

this is why most Americans are in fact drug addicts

we get our fix somehow

I think it's messed up that those three are legal and not pot. I wonder if legalizing pot would reduce cig and booze consumption, some people that currently use the latter two might get the buzz they need from pot. Perhaps lobbying from tobacco and booze companies is why pot isn't legal?

PS I'm not a big pot smoker, I just think alcohol is a very strong drug and cogarettes are the devil.

caffeine increases dopamine levels, and green tea has about half the caffeine in it as coffee does.

dopamine is the main neurotransmitter responsible for feeling pleasure, and as a result is the main thing to look at when watching what causes addiciton

Ok,the reason for this is:

1.less caffeine in tea
2. tea contains l-theanine which lowers BP and has relaxing effects as well.

Do any of you coffee drinkers ever try to take a few weeks off, or cycle your caffeine consumption? I am thinking about taking a cycling approach to coffee like 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off or something like that.

I only drink it when I "need" it.
it increases one's resistance to insulin, and that is not something one wants after working out so hard and all.

I get a better reaction to it if I don't do it all the time.

I mainly use it when I'm really tired at work, and when I have missed breakfast - the increased dopamine levels work to curb hunger.

Karma for this man.

If weed was legal, people'd sure as fuck smoke less tobacco, so I think lobbying may play a factor. But I've also heard that the company that produces Marlboro's is ready to shift production to marijuana almost immediately if it became legal. They've got box designs ready for manufacturing and I'm sure they'd have seeds the day after it was legalized. Imagine taking "weed breaks" instead of cigarette breaks. Or just saying you were taking a cigarette break and smoking weed. You can buy empty cigarette tubes and a machine that packs herbs/tobacco/weed into them.

Doesn't caffeine also decrease hunger because it makes you burn more of your stored fat for energy?

While those are two side effects of coffee/caffeine, I'm not sure if they are directly related.

I know that caffeine increases dopamine levels, and when dopamine levels are higher, your don't get hungry.

And it is shown that caffeine increases the level of ffa (free fatty acids) that are in your blood.

but whether those two are related to each other, I don't know that has been shown.
not to say that you are wrong, just saying that I don't know.
(I'm sure a bit of time spent on medline would turn up something though)

I have been making the switch from coffee to green tea myself. It is definitely not as potent as coffee so I take a Vivarin with it first thing in the morning. I have found that this is one hell of a wake-up call!

Does anyone know if there is any danger in consuming massive amounts of caffeine? I have estimated that I have steadily increased my intake to around 800-1000 Mgs. a day.

Are talking about boners. I have a boner right now, and I drank a cup of green tea earlier. Coincidence? I think not.
