Giving cod-liver oil to babies reduces the risk of getting diabetes later in life, researchers have found.

Studies carried out by scientists in Norway revealed that infants regularly given a spoonful of the oil during their first year were 25 per cent less likely to develop the disease.

The scientists believe that the key ingredient could be the so- called long-chain fatty acids, which are already known to reduce inflammation in the body.

I would go with regular salmon oil (usually called fish oil), rather than cod liver oil. Actually cod liver oil is taken for its vit A content. Its actually rather low in n-3 fats compaired to fish oil, and animal source vit A can reach toxic if taken in excess. In any event I agree that fish oil can greatly reduce the chance of developing diabetes, due to its possitive effects on insulin receptor sensitivity.

What is the n-3 content of regular fish oil? Cod liver oil doesn't seem low to me. 554mg EPA, 369mg DHA per teaspoon (5ml, 40kcal worth).
