coconut oil?

Read an article that it was good for sluggish thyroid, getting metabolism up and helping you lose weight. That's enough for me to want to buy some.
Does anyone have any personal experience with it?
I have flax oil and have only used it one time. I put it in my shake and yuck! Funny aftertaste. I just can't take it. Thought maybe i could use the coconut oil in place of it.
Ideas??

Coconut oil is rich in MCT (medium-chain triglycerides)

MCT digest immediately to produce energy and stimulate metabolism
It also has some interesting anti bacterial properties dur to its lauric acid content

That's for the theory

In practise it's not proven that coconut oil is any useful

I read about some studies done in a womans mag. Sounded good!

Women mags is not what I consider serious science ;)

and, on a practical note, you just have to notice that MCTs have been on the market (supplements) for more than 10 years and have never been a big hit like creatine
If it was such a miracle product as some articles I also read claim, we would know it

But hte best is try by yourself: it's not expensive and can't be harmful :)
 
I may do that. Just wondering if it is comparable to flax. Coconuts taste good so the oil may be tasty. Flax sucks!

Flax = omega 3s = PUFAs

coconut oil = MCTs

Pretty different
and coconut oil is pretty much tasteless

According to my training partner it makes everything taste kind of waxy.

I'd like to take my flax but it tastes like *&#$@ :lmao:
I tried it in my "very flavorful" straw. protein shake and it made a nasty aftertaste. Any other ideas to mask it's revolting taste???

Well I'm not actually. I bought some and tried it once. Just to add a healthy fat into my diet and for the benefits. But it is gross, so it sits on the cabinet. :)
 
coconut oil is the only type of oil you should use for cooking - as other types go rancid when heated. it is an exellent type of oil - you should do some reading up on it on the internet - look at paul check's web site..really good info
