circumcision

How long does it take to recover from circumcision? i.e. how long (typically) do you have to wait before the "old boy" can see action?

Is there much that can be done to speed up recovery?

Anyone?

I'm trying to help out a friend who is shitting himself about the op, he flys out on holiday 3 weeks after the procedure and wants to know if his fella will function... if required ;)

yanked this off a health site :

Healing time for newborns usually takes about 1 week. Apply petroleum jelly after diaper changes to protect the healing incision. Some initial swelling and yellow crust formation around the incision is normal.

Healing time for older children and adolescents may take up to 3 weeks. In most instances, the child will be discharged from the hospital on the day of the surgery. Suggestions for home care for older children include:

Avoid vigorous exercise during the healing time.
If the wound bleeds during the first 24 hours after surgery, apply pressure with a clean cloth for 10 minutes.
Use ice packs (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) for the first 24 hours after surgery to reduce swelling and pain (only for older children and not newborn infants). Bathing and showering are usually permitted. The incision may be gently washed with mild, unscented soap.
Change the dressing at least once a day and apply an antibiotic ointment. If the dressing gets wet, change it promptly.
Use prescribed pain medicine as directed. Pain medication should not be needed longer than 4 to 7 days (use only acetaminophen for infants, as needed).

So, tell him to skip the procedure and keep his unit intact.

Wtf. . . why are all these non jews getting circumsized after they're more than like week old. I keeps it real. (natural)

Nope - it's due to a medical condition (rare), foreskin doesn't retract properly causing extreme pain and potential to split. :(

There are other ways to fix that, ways that don't involve knives. Unless your friend is just in a hurry.

He's going on Doctor advice - if you know of alternatives I'll pass on the info... he can then discuss it with his doc.

Cheers :)

If he's in the USA, then cutting it off is the only thing the doctors here know to do. In countries where circumcision isn't routine, the medical profession knows how to take care of them. There are some stretching exercises and steroid creams that can be used to cure phimosis. Or, the opening can be enlarged with a tiny slit, without actually cutting any skin OFF. But then I wouldn't trust an American doctor with that procedure, 'cause you'd probably wake up with a full circ anyway, no matter what was agreed to beforehand.

If he does end up getting the circ., have him request that they remove as little skin as is possible, and to leave the frenulum intact. That last bit is very important.

A great book is the one by Kristen O'Hara: "Sex, as nature intended it" In it she explalins why circumcision is a disaster for the male. It is available on Amazon. I have a copy and damn near cried after reading it as I had no choice in the matter since my parents bought into the damn docs and had their boys circ'd as infants.
