anybody read Chuck Klosterman's work? he appears regularly in several magazines (including Esquire) and has written several books.

his musings on pop culture and their relevance/effect on today's society are extremely enjoyable. i suggest him to anyone who is interested in today's society and how pop culture plays a role in molding and representing our society.
