Christmas Cards????

Night Fly

New member
How many of you buy those packs of Christmas Cards and send them out to everyone that you know???

I just can't do that... for 1..it seems so impersonal to me, 2...why would I want to send a Christmas card to someone who I haven't talked to in forever, and 3...I would feel bad if people found out that I sent everyone the same kind of card. LOL...

I was thinking about this today as I was shopping for them...

I don't do the mass mailing things.
and when I send a card to anyone, I just make it as inappropriate as possible. usually the big filly lacy ones to "grandma" and then I just take a marker and black out the grandma part and then scrawl swear words all over it.

it makes it special.

and what is funny, is I'm not even joking. there are some people on this board that have gotten cards from me similar to that.

hee hee hee...

Just mailed my impersonal little Christmas cards... They were really cute and artsy, though, so I felt like that made up for their lack of personal touch. I used to write about five paragraphs in each one, but hell, who has time?

I have too much Net surfing to do.

;)

I guess I don't see anything wrong with sending the same type of card when you write something more than "Merry X-mas!!! Love, blah blah.."

The worst is when you get the ones that are typed...they aren't even personally signed.

Oh, and the family letters that you get from people each year at Christmas because they were too lazy to keep in touch with you throughout the year to let you know how their life was going. Now, those are the best. lol

Those letters are wild.

"Junior took his first poo on the potty today..." etc...

Too much information.

I usually make damn near everyone I know a plate of cookies and a painted Christmas ornament, 'cause I think I'm Martha Stewart. This year, I'm starting to regret that tradition, as I have been up until 3 AM every night for two weeks, covered in flour and paint...

Next year, I'm sending e-cards.

Nope...still get my pictures taken with the fam and let my mom mail that stuff out. lol I send out personal cards to people I adore but honestly, a lot of them get calls. I'd rather get a long distance call from a college buddie rather than a card.

What about those people who write out like a 6 page recap of their year, xerox them, and send them out. My family knows some people who always send out a really depressing letter about how their dog died, their kid broke his leg, etc. If you aren't in touch with people why send out some "summary" of your year?? Seems kinda weird to me.

Kate

I mailed over 200 this year. 90% of them were clients but I still do it.

Non-business side we mailed 25 - 30 I believe. Impersonal????? Call them then and wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and all that jazz.

Good way to say hi to someone that you haven't talked to in a long time.

Get a few different boxes.....thats what we always do....then mix and match so that you don't send the same card to everyone.

There are some really cool cards on the net right now.....I will send it to anyone if they want it.

Make Christmas cards out of a personal photo.. It probably is a little cheesy to get the boxed cards but I like receiving cards. Sometimes people are so busy, it's good to hear from them at Christmas...

I have so many realtives and stuff, it would be impossible to buy individual cards... But I think it would be kind of rude not to send a small holiday greeting...

NO, don't do it...that's even worse!!!

Kate...those were the kind of letters I was talking about, btw. OH, and you are a cutie. I've seen your pic that Capt. posted on the Pics of members board! :)

Well, I guess in this day and age people are more busy than they care to be. There just doesn't seem to be the time for all that mess anymore, you know?

I will agree with Starfish, though...I like getting them in the mail. It makes me feel special! :)

I love getting them, too. I put them up all over the house. Even the ugly ones.

This year, I got two signed only with a first name, and I have NO idea who they're from. Weird.

I hate it when I get cards from people I didn't send one too, though, because then I feel like crap.

Thanks NighFly. What a sweetie you are!!

I think e-cards are the epitome of impersonal. I guess it's one thing to send a friend one for the hell of it but not for a holiday. Even with regular generic box cards you have to address them, stamp them, sign them. An e-card can be done with a few keystrokes and a click of a button. TOO impersonal.

I like to get cards for no reason. A card I get from someone in the middle of June, just to say "thinking of you" means SO much more to me than a "merry chirstmas love jim and tom" (jim and tom written in the same handwriting of course because actually getting 2 people to sign is MUCH too much work.

I just like to see some effort made!!

Hey Night Fly......I hope you were being serious about the family letters!?! I always take care of the Christmas cards around my house. We have two daughters and a dog and a cat and we always have their pictures taken professionally and have them made into cards. Expensive too! We are sending out 90 this year. I have always written a letter updating everybody about our trials and tribulations. I try to make them as funny as possible and have been told by most that they look forward to that letter every year! Of course, I must be too lazy to keep in touch with everybody but I enjoy writing that letter. Right now, I am waiting for the photographer to deliver the cards to me. He just called and said he was on his way! Anyway, it's just like a guy to wait until the last minute to send them! Oh well!

AWw....now I feel bad? I don't know....I guess it would be okay if it were funny, but the ones that I get where I haven't heard from the people in FOREVER...well...I don't know.

I feel bad now!!! :(

Tradition

It was always tradition, not sending one is considered impersonal. Depends on your customs and traditions I guess. Besides, it's a great time to send a pic to everyone showing your progress and have their spouses look at them with pity! j/k.

I look forward to those, although it usually reminds me that I should have called this person.

No, no...don't feel bad. This is something that I have always done. I send them to friends and family that live out of town and don't see them very often. The letter is always light-hearted and I usually put things in there that they can relate to. Like this year, my youngest daughter is 5 years old and is learning to count and read and she came to me the other day and asked me if I wanted her to count to 700!!!(By 1's) What could I say? Another part of the letter talks about our dog(Max) and how he is slowly devouring our christmas tree and it's ornaments and how we will only have a stump left by the time Christmas gets here! Things like that are funny to me! Anyway, that's why I like to write them and send it with the cards! When you get my age(40) you will know where I'm coming from!!! LOL!

I am glad to hear I am not alone...!!! I haven't sent out a card yet this year...and if it gets too much later I doubt if I will. It is funny the last 2 years I actually made my X-mas cards...stenciled, stamped and painted them...:( . Oh well 2 years of hard work will make up for one year of nothing, Right?! ( I well have to get on the horn and wish everyone Merry Christmas via Ma Bell!!)
