I actually have a serious post for once!

I hurt my neck (snapped it) doing drunken stupid stuff during Halloween. My neck still hurts when I turn it certain ways.

Have you people been to chiropractors? Do they help?
I've heard of some people getting more fuk't up after seeing one.
Comments?

... IMO

Finding a good one is key...if you have a good chiro, it's worth it, IMO.

I go once a week, and the man has been a great help. My neck and back are a LOT less sore week to week, and he also set me up with custom orthotics to help with fallen arches.

I went to a not-so-good chiro for a while, and stopped because I wasn't seeing any progress week-to-week.

Find a chiropractor that is also a physical therepist. I have had back pain on my right side for weeks. I found a guy through a friend that had me pain free in one session. He also referred me to a podiatrist to get orthotics to permanently alleviate the situation.

It is very difficult to find a good chiropractor. Many of them are quacks, but if they also have a strong physical therepy background they can be a weightlifters best friend.

I've gone to a few different chiropractors... the only good one was in with a group of orthopeadic surgeons. He had his office at their physical therapy location. He only cracked what was necessary for the specific problem I was having. Then he actually suggested different weight lifting exercises I could do to prevent the injury from happening again.

Every other chiro I've gone to has no idea about exercise or weight lifting.

Mine is great, he knows all about weightlifting and routinely checks out my squat and deadlift form in the office.

He also did a great job fixing my shoulder after a little car accident.

Ummm of course he wants to check out your squat and deadlift form, purely for medical reasons heheheheh

I'm on a roll today ;)

Hmm ... I say a neigh to it my parents go I think it is a load of steaming crap... They feel great when they are going like twice a week some how I don't think that is healthy. I would say find a message therapist and or a physio therapist a sports clinic if you can.

you're kidding right? does he have his hands in his pockets when you're showing him your form? guys are freaking pigs man. PIGS.

LOL, Natureboy! Seriously..

He's very good, he explains to me why my lower back is hurting on the one side, he shows me some stretches to do to help, a week later we check again to see if I'm still leaning to one side.. etc.

how long have you been going for?

Mm.. with the whiplash thing, I went for about 3 months...

But normally, I just go when my back hurts.

so your balance when squatting is okay now?

hey when you had whiplash did you have to wear a brace?

I bet he doesn't ask the ugly hefers that come in to squat for him.

Dude- those guys are scammers.... If they had half a brain they would have gotten a real MD

My parents are the same way! They go at least weekly for "adjustments." Their golden retriever was having a neck problem and they took him for a while. Turns out he had a tumor:(

Yes a good massage theropist can do wonders for a crick in the neck.

Thanks all.

And how come my serious thread got way more replies than all my other funny threads?

I think that's telling me something.....

That you guys don't know true brilliance when you see it.

Or maybe that you are not that funny....

If I keep up with the stretching, it's better. If I'm lazy and say forget the dumb stretching.. it'll eventually act up, usually when I increase the weight.

No brace..heheh.. thank goodness.

I did try to trick my chiro once, while I was pretty much better from the whiplash, I was getting a weird pain in one particular spot, I didn't say anything about it...but he found it.. he was like "..something right here doesn't feel right.."

And what is so different about a physical therapist? My chiro does mostly stretching, and some massage.. very little cracking. I think it's almost the same thing no? (I don't really know cause I've never been)

Mmm.. actually no, nothing the same at all. But thanks for sharing nonetheless. ;)

Sounds like you have a chiro like I go to. He actually does very little cracking. He is very open minded and tries lots of different treatment types. He does deep tissue massage, accupuncture, laser therapy.

never believed until....

I had a hip injury...around my left outer hip...i stopped lifting all together from depression from it..i love doing legs...anyways rested several weeks then came back and hurt again...then rested a month or two and took antiinflammatory and tried coming back and still pain....then stopped for 3 months and came back and pain after 2nd week...i use excellent form by the way...so finally out of desperation a friend of mine who is a strength coach told me i may be out of alignment so he hooked me up with a good chiropractor and within the first week i had great improvement...most of pain was gone...then after a month i was ready to lift again...after two months very little pain ever...i feel great now...so yes they do help....it depends on injury and also on chiropractor...doctors are like personal trainers there are good ones and bad ones...best thing to do is find one that works with athletes alot.good luck

My uncle went to a tough ass school to get certified as a chiro. Evidently there are only a few good schools to get into. He knows his stuff and can do a lot more that just 'crack' your back.

My uncle is a chiropractor and has helped me for years....ever since I was about 9-10. It's been especially helpful after 2 major car accidents when I got permanent damage. I'm still uncomfy most of the time but it's a lot more tolerable when I'm going to see my uncle regularly vs when I get busy and don't go for 3-4 months.

Here's my experience:

Had 1 vertebrae, mid-back, that was slightly twisted, and angled to the right (football injury).
I also have a small piece of bone on my lower spine that can catch on a nerve and cause occasional pain, like getting struck by lightening.

He got the mid back vertebrae back in place, permenantly.
He also showed me exercises to keep my pelvis straight.
(mostly keeping my quads and hams balanced).
This didn't take many visits and he lastly said I didn't have to come back unless I hurt. He also sends me free adjustment coupons in the mail for my birthday...lol.

I have had numbness in my shoulders for about 3 months. I just recently went and have gone about 3 times I think and the numbness is gone and so is my lowerback pain that I created by squating.

Yes, he was talking pretty out there about mystical,
chi, aura sensing stuff..

I know they all aren't here but some are..

Ah. I could see where that might turn one away.

Mine just grouses at me about lifting heavy, and how it's "risky".

My ex went to a chiropractor and he was seriously a nutcase. I wish I could remember half the stories she had about that guy.

100% incorrect......

The number one Chiropractic School in the nation is in St. Louis.

Logan College of Chiropractic, they go to school 46 weeks out of the year for three years.

Granted, there are some bad Chiropractors out there, but there are some flaky ass doctors as well.

Per everyone else's suggestion, I would look for one who has experience with bodybuilder's or athletes, and works closely with a physical therapist.

I am aware of them- I went to HS in St Louis....

You have a good point bro... Lots of flaky docs...

I heard if you do GM's naked it reduces pain and improves squat and DL form...

Now get to it- and take some vids....

Oh yeah, and that will be $158.63 payable in cash to the front desk please...

Most of the good ones now are "wellness centers"

The last two I have used, you go in, get a 15-20 minute massage, perhaps some hydrotherapy or muscle stimulus and then an adjustment.

Find a good one and you will quickly know if chiropractics is for you or not.
