Charity is useless appeasement

The collective behavior or the world desires and needs rich and poor. Charity is a way of excusing this. It is treating the symptom, not the cause, with minimal effect.

If you want change, support fundamental change. Don't throw your money to the wind, unless your public image is improved by such actions.

Well what specific things can one do to improve it then?
Improve what?

Do you dislike the fact that poor people have less food do eat? Do you dislike the fact that Africa has a high rate of HIV?

Perhaps get involved in political action groups, contribute to non-charity funds that cause actual political and social change that is not geared towards just "helping the disadvantaged". Don't just "give to the poor".

I think IhateBrolies is saying "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a life time."

Basically, yes. Treat the cause, not the symptom. But that statement is individual and not necessarily saying anything in the macroscopic context of society.

Additionally,
killing a few thousand people or contributing to such action could reduce poverty and starvation more than would contributing to charity. Destroy the cause. Change the cause. Teach society.

EDIT: I'm not saying violence is the only way to do this. Bad choice of example.
