Changing my name back

I want my maiden name back now that Im divorced. I don't think I should carry around His name any longer being we are not Husband and Wife.

Not sure how this will affect my kids or if it will even affect them in the future. (to have mom with a different last name)

Is this commonly done now?

Probably much more common than it once was hon.

It will cause some confusion, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Good luck:)

I don't know if it's common, but I'm going to advise against it if your maiden name is "Diarrhea." That just can't be good for anyone.

Somebody must've ran out of funny pills.

I don't know if it is commonly done nowadays. My parents are recently divorced, and my parents do NOT LIKE eachother (after 23 years of marriage). My mom has not changed her name back to her maiden name.

I think that it is all a matter of choice. I asked my mom one time why she did not change her name back and she told me that it would be too much of a pain in the ass to change all of her cards, documents, etc.

She did something else...she moved about 3000 miles away to a completely different state. She was able to start a new life.

Again, I think it's a matter of choice.

Ditch his name. I dislike the practice of changing your name in the first place.

A mom with the body of a 19 year old fitness champion... you are the Zenith of MILF!

Your kids will be forced to give a 2 min dissertation explaining the sutu every time
they give their last name against yours..

How long were you married ?

I would agree with the change if there were no kids, but not in your case..

:bigkiss: :busy:

I was hesitant to change my name to his in the first place also. Just didn't understand the reason for changing my idenity....I don't even remember why I caved

Mrs. Chef asked if I would have been happier if she changed her name. My answer, "I married you, I didn't buy you!"

We also tossed the hokey vows right into the bin...

Actually, in Iceland every one is named after their father, you never change your name in marriage here.

If Jón and Élín's dad is named Samuel, they are Jón Samuelson and Élín Samuelsdottir.

married for 5 together much longer

I stick to my comments regarding the kids..

I had 2 friends in highschool that were in a similar situ and it was confusing
for everyone and them regarding the difference.

Not that it matters what others think, but then again it does.

I have to agree with CheffySmooth ... on both statements!!! :p

Ive been battling with this same dilemma over the last 3 yrs since my divorce. I have kept my married name because it is also my son's last name. That is the only reason I have not changed it. As much as I want my maiden name back as to cut myself off from my ex, i dont want to cut myself off from my son in that way.

Now,. the question arises, if i were to ever remarry, my name will change anyway.

Exactly the same thing I thought about. In the event I would remarry my name would change becasue Im sure My SO wouldn't want me to carry My X's last name.

My mom actually kept my fathers name when they divorced. She had a long ass polish name that no one could spell or pronounce. She eventuallly got remarried and took my stepfathers name. Only issue she ever had was our friends calling her by the wrong last name when they first meet her.

My ex-gf still uses her married name and her ex is a total ass. I think it's cool when chicks keep their name, especially when they have careers of their own. I like a babe with some backbone.

I don't think it matters that much anymore.......divorce is so common that I don't think it'll be that confusing to others..... I would say it's your choice....

How old are your kids? See what they think....

My kids are 10 and 7

And yea, I think its more common now than in the past, and not that hard to do either. ;)
