Cereal Post Workout

New member
I have access to only cereal but almost any type of cereal immediately post-workout. Which would be the best post-workout carb source?

cookie crisp!

lol

seriously, i don't think it matters 99% of cereals are simple carbs..

the only exception would be the whole grain cereals like grape nuts or all bran, etc...

not post workout...fructose will restore live glycogen first then muscle glycogen...while glucose and glucose polymers like dextrose and maltodextrin will restore muscle glycogen first then liver glycogen...

if you are on a low carb diet just count the post workout carbs in your daily caloric intake...depending on how low you are going you may have to use post workout as the only time that you ingest carbs....but post workout is the most important time to ingest them.

FitnessFrk: shouldnt i avoid oj which has fructose?

almost all fruit juices are rich in fructose
try to avoid them

As for cereals, you'd better not have one with a lot of fiber

Most breakfast cereals are very good postworkout carbs. Their low in fat and absorbed fast by the body. Also, some even have dextrose and maltodextrin in them.

I agree w/ anthrax though, dont get a high fiber one if you come from the school of thought that speed of absorbtion is important postworkout.

Some of my fav. cereals are : cookie crisp, fruitypebbles, lucky charms, Oreo O's, count chocula and boo berry and frosted flakes. Also, rice crispies w/ marshmallows melted on top like a rice crispy treat

NO way, I love cereal, but never eat it anymore. You could substitute cereal and milk for postworkout replenishment? I would love to eat a couple bowls of cereal. All that slow digesting milk can't be good for you though? I guess on days you don't train as hard...I just can't think that I may not be getting the best nutrition after a grueling leg workout. But shit arms...honey bunches of oats here I come. Oh, why not a cereal that contains fiber???

=W=

Ok, yes fiber will slow absorbtion of the sugar's in the cereal, but so will the milk so I don't understand where your going here?

don't use milk. make a protein shake and use that as your milk. fiber slows digestion. bad idea post workout, good idea before bed.

Oh shizzzznit....now I see what you mean. A protein packed bowl of cereal. Yum, that could be really good with my Vanilla protein powder. Let's see....Vanilla cocoa krispie's, oh shit...I gotta try this one...It's leg day tommorow, how much should I eat a 100grams worth of carbs? Your getting Karma for that one P.

Read my post it says exactly what you just said. You dont want fiber for the same reason you dont want the milk. Use plorvines idea of cereal with a whey shake instead of milk. I have done this in the past and it tastes good.
