Carbohydrates when on

Cardinal Slin

New member
Ok we all know carbs create a surge of insulin - from my understanding all macronutrients do but some more than others and we all know how important and anabolic insulin is.

Now some people do keto diets, others limit the amount of carbs they do. I was wondering how important carbs really are when on cycle and if someone can shed some light on this for me?

I am on 500mgs sust weekly and between 4-600 mgs masteron weekly (starting off at 400mgs) with my intentions to add some lean muscle tissue 5-10lbs and drop a little bodyfat. Now how important do you think it really is to eat something that will create that insulin spike prior to drinking a protein shake?

Just curious as when I am on insulin I drink 75grams of dextrose 15 minutes before my protein shake - I was wondering if it would be super beneficial to do the same when not using insulin?

I do not have access to waxy maize or what ever it's called. Hell I am lucky to be able to get dextrose. I am assuming those who compete would best be suited to answer this but am sure others can as well.

Thanks

I am at around 10-11% bf at the moment but no way in hell can I measure my upper back bf with callipers - not flexi slin :D

This photo was about 5 wks in to my last cycle - since then I dropped approx another 4% bf and am a little bigger than was in that photo. As for the insulin sensitivity - honestly can't answer that but my metabolism is quite high although it has slowed down in the last few years as I am not as young or active as I used to be.

One of my problems is my height - I am just under 6ft 5 so I have too ways of achieving my goals:

1: Get super big (currently have 20 inch arms when flexed and they don't look big at all when arms down to my side)

or

2: Get shredded which gives the impression of being bigger than a person actually is.

Anyway, back to my question... :)

Hey Bro I'm wondering why you are asking this question if you have been using insulin. You must know why you use insulin. The same conditions apply post workout & yes you need to use carbs to create that insulin response. In most cases we throw in the protein at the same time. Vanadyl Sulfate can be used instead of insulin, but plenty of carbs & dirty ones are allowed if you are not pre comp, to do the same thing. Dextrose, I find good even in my drink bottle while training to help maintain energy levels.

Thanks NZ - reason I ask because by the time I am done with the dextrose and the protein shake, I feel a little sick and don't get the appetite to eat a 'real' meal for another few hours. I just came off slin so was hoping to give that forcing stuff down me a break :(

Oh well, guess not

No I hear ya Bro. I normally use the dextrose during training & just recently I have been "experimenting" with using glycerol pre workout. If I have done a heavy leg or back session, I grab a shake prot/carb at the gym. Then I normalyy do a post workout meal about an hour later. Depending how I feel, this might be steak, sweet potato & brocolli, or more dirty carbs & higher fat. The hardest thing about BBing, is the eating. Just dont get too hung up on it or it stresses ya out too much. Its about getting food in all day. Eat something even if its a small snack every hour if you have too. At the end of the day you will be winning.

Yeah, definately dextrose post w/o. Thats a no brainer.

I have been on keto before (CKD) and it worked great. My understanding of the mechanism is limited, but the aim is to drop insulin levels to zero, and deplete muscle glycogen with excercise. The fact that the body cannot shuttle the glycogen to the muscles means it swithes to fat for energy - ketosis.

My knowledge stops here, I dont quite understand how the aminos get to the muscles without slin...but I grew a good amount of LBM and got shredded (I was on AAS as well).

Any better explanations ( shouldnt be hard!)

I use the slin as an anabolic agent off cycle. When I was on test, I thought I could at least lay off the carbs a bit post workout and still not take as long to get back in to an anabolic state.

I am an obsessive compulsive :(

I am never ever big enough or happy with the results I get... I need help

slin, i have read and re-read your threads that you have recenlty posted. I think that you have lost sight of what this bodybuilding journey is all about. You seem constantly wrapped up in the drug aspect of bodybuilding that you have forgotten that training and diet are just as important. I dont mean to flame or come after you but from what I have gathered from your posts i would have assumed that with your gear history you would be much further along in your development. I have never used HGH, slin, and always kept my doses altogether under 1gram. I depend on training and diet to help me improve while using gear as mearly a supplement while getting ready for a competition.
The point I'm trying to make is that maybe you should focus your OCD towards diet and training instead of gear.
If you feel I have insulted you than I apologize.

get some oxy pads on that back of yours...:verygood:

Nope, I do not feel you have insulted me - I had a 5 year break in which I did not hit up the gym once nor do any other kind of physical activity and only quite recently got back in to the gym less than a year ago now. My main problem is I am trying or think I can get back to where I was 5 years ago much quicker than I actually can and am using things hgh/slin etc to speed that up.

My journey started off at around 140lbs and a typical pencil neck hardgainer, it took a number of years before I could fine tune diet, training and rest to get me to a normal 220lbs quite lean. Coming back I am now at around 250ish with very little water and quite low bf so I do know and value diet very much. When I started out my metabolism was already super high and I had to learn the hardway but who isn't impatient in this world we live in.

As for the oxy - after months of home treatment, my back is bigger than it actually is and don't mistake it - when you are 194cms, unless 300lbs, you don't look anything special but I definitely must say I am coming back to my old self quite respectfully.

ok thanks for the info bro
i just want you to get all the benefits you can from what you are taking now
if you had no idea how to train or eat is would all that gear would just go to waste and that kind of ignorance on this board is abundant.
im glad to hear you are doing it right and using your head.
just be patient. itll take time to get back to where you were
